If you're ok with a little less you can go for Paint.net, it's free and has a shitton of plugins that give it a lot of the same functionalities as PS. GIMP is shit.

Otherwise torrent it or ask your teacher for a student license.

All you'll get is CS0 out of me. I dont know if it works. I use 7 and all of the CS versions run slow for me. I dont figure you're going to want 7 for a class.
