Do you remember what the first two episodes of JoJo were like? Before all the supernatural stuff took over? When it was a tale about an evil stepson trying to ruin a rich family and gain their wealth, and anything else they valued, for himself? I'd like something that's kinda like that, but in a form of an entire anime series.
What I'm looking for is a story-driven comedy series with similarities to those two particular episodes. It doesn't have to take place in the same kind of setting, but I want the same kind of over the top, soap opera-like drama, where every little moment is made to be so ridiculously "edge of your seat" tense, and the characters are so deadpan serious about everything, no matter how absurd it is, you just can't help but laugh. Bonus points for stylistic devices that heighten the drama, such as dramatic head turns, eyes obscured in shadows etc.
Does anything like that exist? I've heard Prison School is kinda like that, but its premise and ecchiness really put me off - I'd prefer something with a more "normal" setting and much less fanservice.

You would do well to avoid anime.

It's not like I don't want any fanservice - some of it is fine. I just don't want anything that has fanservice as its main focus.
Anyone?

Fist of The North Star
Same anon as >>264965. felt like I should follow up with the fact that FOTNS isn't really a comedy series.

It fits with everything here except the "story-driven comedy series" part. Sorry OP, closest thing I could think of.
