hey, been out of a math class for so long, I've become retarded
can someone help me explain how to do this basic math problem?

Multiply both sides by 5. Then multiply both sides by 3. Get rid of the parentheses.
What does that get you?
>>255620
3(8-y) = 5(5(y+2)
24-3y = 5(5y+10)
which equals
24-3y = 25y+50
>>255623
You forgot to multiply that 8 by five. After the first multiplication, it should say "40 - y = 25(y+2)/3". Which makes your final line "120 - 3y = 25y + 50".
Now subtract 50 from both sides. Add 3y to both sides. Divide by 28. Simplify.
>>255624
so... 2.5 is what I got
>>255627
That's correct. Substitute 2.5 back into the original equation to verify.
>>255628
7.5 on both sides
2.5 is the right answer, hey hey
thanks anon

You're welcome.
