I'm wanting more than just the occasional death or hostage situation. Looking for themes more along the lines of rape, trafficking, domestic abuse, torture, pedophilia, or anything else that would induce psychological trauma.
And don't just give me some war series as themes like that wouldnt have as much as an impact as it happening in a more "tame" setting.
Nothing too edgy or tryhard though. I'd still like good characters and whatnot

dexter, criminal minds and hannibal

criminal minds feels too pattern like and everything is just so expected. I know bad things will happen each episode. Do either of the other two have some element of unpredictability.
Dexter sounds like it'll be pretty systematic too.

Hannibal is kinda CSI but darker, each episode typically starts with a violent murder case. The FBI investigate with their special investigation unit. Where the protagonist Will Graham proceeds to evaluate the crime scene by analysing the killer's mindset (which get particularly twisted in some episodes).
I'd recommend you watch the first couple episodes to get a feel. There is an overarching story, it's not like CSI in the sense that almost all episodes are unrelated.
Law and Order: SVU can be good for this kind of stuff.
