How do I into Ghost in the Shell? Where do I start?

Just to make it clear now, all of these are separate universes that use the same themes and characters. Only the ones that are connected with an arrow -> are in the same world. So you won't learn one thing about some characters from another, just a general idea of what to expect. Also know that the manga is also a separate universe. Despite all of that, a lot of things are the same anyway, but I just wanted to make sure you know that before getting into it.
You can start like this:
Ghost in the Shell (1995) -> Ghost in the Shell Innocence
Or:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex -> Ghost in the Shell: SAC: Second Gig -> Ghost in the Shell: SAC: Solid State Society
And then after you've finished one of those, you watch the ones you didn't. I suggest starting with the movies and then moving to the TV anime, but it's your choice.
After that, you can watch Arise, but it's not as great as the original movies or the first TV anime:
Ghost in the Shell: Arise: Alternative Architecture -> Ghost in the Shell (2015)
I hope this was helpful. Ask any questions if what I said was a garbled mess.

don't forget the manga, the art of gits, and on youtube the making of ghost in the shell they aren't necessary but they help the audience appreciate the history and the process

Woah, this is really useful for helping to explain the separate universes part of it.
Thanks for this. Will be very helpful for all of the many threads that await before the release of the live-action movie.
