DBZ is a poor adaptation of the worst part of Dragon Ball (everything after the timeskip).

I would recommend early Dragon Ball to anyone, just like I would recommend Ranma 1/2.

I started watching anime relatively recently and I absolutely loved it, basically marathoned the entire TV series, movies and OVAs. There's a bit of of filler as the series drags on, but the cast of cute girls more than makes up for it, I just wish we got some kind of closure.
