I have a dead CD that I need to somehow recover. I run dd on it, and it seems to output same I/O error message every ~10 seconds without copying any new bytes. When it happened before, it usually continued after a minute, but here it keeps on going for five or ten minutes. Is there any way to skip broken part? Will it eventually finish upon reaching the end of the disk?

this might sound a little obvious.. but take the cd out, wipe it with detergent and water, then dry it and try it again.

You should be using dd_rescue.

dd is only for devices that won't ever fail.
