Why would I get more for my money since Amd has 8 cores at 4.0ghz and Intel has 4 cores at 4.0ghz

Because not every CPU gets the same amount of shit done at the same clock.
A 6700K at 2GHz is faster than the FX8350 at 4GHz, because it has way higher IPC, meaning instructions per cycle. The architecture is simply much much better.


Also, not that it matters since the CPU is shit anyway, the 8 cores are marketing bullshit. It has 8 integer cores, which are one important part of normal cores, but it only has 4 of several other important parts - so each two cores have to share these parts, which makes them even slower.

The FX8350 was already bad when it came out, and now, four years later, it is abysmal.
The performance per clock is actually worse than that of an i7 920 from 2008.
You will still be able to play most games if you run into GPU limit, but performance will be way worse than with the 6700K.
