>feeling exposed because Avg and Norton are shit
I remember seeing an infograph a while ago with two recommended anti virsuses but I can't find it again for whatever reason. Can you guys recommend an anti virus program that isn't shit? Would be much appreciated.
Use your brain, if you want to install something new, just upload it to virustotal.com
CCleaner and malwarebytes make pretty good tools to use.

panda is one of the best free antiviruses
it'll nag you to make an account but it doesn't require verification, so I just set my email to [email protected]

Your best best is to use Malwarebytes Premium, since the standard edition isn't a LIVE solution, but rather, only scans when you tell it to. In my experience, it has a much better detection ratio and gives the user more control.
But common sense goes a long way. Just don't download stupid shit and try to verify downloads with their signatures when you can.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security. I'm frequently all over asian porn sites, & torrent sites and it protects me completely. Since I started using it I've never had a virus. It's not expensive either if you get it from ebay.

Just get a boot disk and run it every few months, that is way better than any real time scan which has to scan on runtime and also slows you down, in effect giving you a slower pc for more money.
Or, even better, learn how to use VMs. Use one VM for your porn browsing, and one for your critical stuff.
Not being an idiot also helps, I haven't had anything which virus scans can detect EVER and I download a shitload of porn and other crap.
Get a MacBook. Apple doesn't get viruses.
