Hey guys, I finally decided to spend my hard-earned shekels and buy a new laptop.
The problem is that I've been out of the loop for the longest time, my current computer is a very old Franken-monster, pic related. Needs replacement asap.
I use my computer mostly for image and video editing (Photoshop, Premiere), also the occasionally gaming session.
I've narrowed my options to these three:
>Asus GL552VW DM136T (15.6" 1920 x 1080 / INTEL CORE I7-6700HQ(6M 2.6GHZ) / 4GB DDR4 / 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD / NVIDIA GTX960M 2GB GDDR5 / Win10 )
>Dell Inspiron 15-7559T-70814G-W10 6th i7 15.6 inch UHD Touch Gaming Notebook (i7-6700HQ,1TB SSHD,8GB,Nvidia GTX960M-4GB DDR5,W10)
>Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK (i7-6700HQ, 8GB, 1TB+128GB SSD,15.6 FHD,4GB NV GTX960M, W10H)
I'm leaning towards the Asus, being the cheapest of the bunch and also the other ones might be overkill for what I actually will be using them for.
If you have other suggestions that'd be swell too.

Do you really need a laptop?
Since you are going into graphics route wouldn't you benefit more from a desktop with a decently sized monitor?
>>186379
I need to be able to move it around, as I don't always work from home and travel quite often, so yes.
>I'm leaning towards the Asus
bad move in my opinion with that 4 GB of ram.
If you're planning on adding ram to it is it still cheapest in terms of cost?
>>186384
Also, I wouldn't touch Lenovo with a ten foot poll with their reputation for borderline malware bundleware. I'm not paying for any rootkits.
I'd go with the Dell.
>>186384
>If you're planning on adding ram to it is it still cheapest in terms of cost?
Yes, that's my plan and it would still be cheaper.
Prices I get are:
>Asus + extra 4GB RAM: 881.22 US Dollar
>Lenovo: 1046.45 US Dollar
>Dell: 1036.78 US Dollar
>>186386
I heard bad stuff about Lenovo as well, so that one goes out of the list.
>>186389
The ASUS looks pretty good at that price. Where you plan on buying it?
>>186394
I'm in Malaysia atm, probably online (lazada.com.my), that's where I found it for that price.
>>186386
Everyone ships shovelware.
Only a retard uses the OS that's installed, particularly now it's so easy to do a clean install with the media creation tool: all you need is a USB stick, and your BIOS even enters the product key for you.
That said, Ideapads are shit.
I still use a Y580 from 2012, so I can attest to Lenovo's longevity.
It's also from the same Y-series as the Y700, although mine is probably smaller.
But to be honest, I'd recommend you keep a high-end desktop and buy a cheap laptop, specially if you're thinking of those bulky 17 inch screens laptops that have little mobility. It's going to be kept at home 99% of the time.
>>186386
And Lenovo with their ThinkPad line shows how shitty a computer can be.
>>186403
What is a decent desktop in your opinion? How much would I be looking to spend on it?
I wanted a laptop mostly for the mobility, I can work with smaller screens. Also I can always plug a bigger screen to it when at home.
This is the one I'm leaning towards:

The track pad looks a little annoying. Did you see that part? What do you think of the power button?
>>186420
I can get used to the track pad I guess, most likely I'll be using a mouse anyway and I'm used to navigating using keyboard shortcuts all the time.
About the power button, I think I can avoid pressing it by mistake, it can't be that hard to do, right?
I'm conflicted, the Dell is a nice upgrade for not really so much more money.

Here are the two listings I'm looking at:
http://www.lazada.com.my/dell-inspiron-15-7559-70814g-w10-i7-6700hq-8gb-1tb-4gbgtx960m156-fhd-red-11246186.html

>>186432
Well, they all have the same CPU and GPU which are pretty much the most important parts of the PC especially for what you want to do.
Looks like even the RAM and drives are very much similar.
The extra money would go on all the other stuff that you may benefit from like screen size and shit like that. So far the $800 ASUS was the best price. Jumping another $200 or so is a good chunk of money (1/4) of the price of $800.
Is $200 worth it for whatever features you're going to be getting extra?.
>>186436
Nah, you're right, I don't think it's really worth it.
I researched some more and the general consensus is to go with the Asus (googled "Asus GL522VW vs Dell Inspiron 7559"), most people seem to agree. I could use those 200 for peripherals and/or other shit.
I'm going with the Asus, thanks so much for helping me decide.
>>186440
Basically. Shit you could spend that money on a monitor or a desk just for that laptop.
>>186441
Hey man, I found this other one now that also looks good:
>HP Pavilion 15-AK032TX Gaming Notebook (i7-6700HQ,8GB,1TB,NVGTX950M4GB,W10H)
http://www.lazada.com.my/hp-pavilion-15-ak032tx-gaming-notebooki7-6700hq8gb1tbnvgtx950m4gbw10h-free-logitech-g100s-gamingmouse-hp-backpack-6610084.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dq67XQUb-8
On the plus side, it's slightly cheaper and already has 8GB RAM.
Downside is that it doesn't have an SSD drive and the GPU is slightly worse than the Asus. What do you think?
>>186386
the solution is to install your own OS or reinstall the one it comes with. easy fix.
>>186713
>HP Pavilion 15-AK032TX
>1 TB 5400 rpm SATA
That speed drive by itself is a dealbreaker for me.
I wouldn't do it at that speed. You're better off with the Asus SSD + HDD and better video card along with the extra 4 GB of ram.
>>186815
>>HP Pavilion 15-AK032TX
>>1 TB 5400 rpm SATA
>That speed drive by itself is a dealbreaker for me.
So stick one of these in it, install the Intel Rapid Storage driver, and stop being such a gigantic gaylord.
>>186822
And waste a brand new drive even though it's shitty?. A bit inefficient isn't it?.
Nigger, if you are so fond of buying laptops and then upgrading them right off the bad and tossing brand new hardware you do it. I don't want to do that shit and and advising OP of my opinion.
>>186824
>And waste a brand new drive even though it's shitty?. A bit inefficient isn't it?.
Maybe start a habit of looking up the words you don't understand?

>>186824
>I don't want to do that shit
Confirmed for retard: storage and RAM is the thing OEMs gouge you the most on.
I bet you buy $25 USB leads because the salesman tells you to.
>>186826
>>186827
I'm not OP.
OP. When you show up, this was my advice >>186815.
Not sure what these two fucking retards, >>186826
>>186827
are arguing with me for when I don't need their advice. I guess they're really trying to impress you or something anyways, looks like they're desperate to convince you to get that 5,400 rpm drive. It's up to you, I'm not trying to argue about this shit.
>>186828
Well, I'm just here to let you know you're a helpless baby who can't install Windows or click in an SSD.
If it discourages you from staying here giving out shit advice, that's a bonus, I guess.
Any laptop with a Xeon e3 is going to be better for any kind of CAD/Image video work.
