Four episodes, great mecha action.

For something shorter (one full season) the original Berzerk is a masterpieace of action if you want a masterpieace of romance wath "golden time" if you're okay with one that is a bit longer "Code geass Lelouche of the rebeillion" is great (and I don't even like the genre).

Ignore this and just watch the movie version.
It doesn't cut anything and it add extra animation to one of the ending fights.

Teekyuu. 7 seasons and multiple spin-offs but altogether the run time is probably less than a 1 cour anime.
