Hi, I just got MPV on xubuntu, however when I take screenshots it shows the subtitles. How do I get the VO driver to fix this.
Also, I downloaded MPV off of the software client. Are there any plugins that I should install to increase the video quality? I know MPC-HC has MadVR or FFM-whatever. Is MPV good to go off the bat?
Mpv isn't broken, so you don't need to fix it with strange plugins.
On video outputs:
X11 is slow as fuck and mostly there for scientific purposes.
Xv is fast, but renders fonts terribly on upscale, use as a fallback if your video drivers don't work.
Opengl renders fonts properly on upscale, this would be the baseline in this day and age.
Opengl-hq slaps on a couple of more things for your pleasure, your video card/drivers might not keep up with it.
There are a couple of tweaks to opengl-hq you can add, but I can't remember them.
See what video outputs you have with 'mpv --vo help' and try them until you get what you like.

Couldn't you press "v" to turn off the subtitles (assuming they're not hard coded) and then take the screenshot?

Is capital "S" to take screenshots without subtitles.
ANd you don't need plugins, check how to change the config, mine is
