Look up giving him ibuprofein. My vet told me to give to our dog along with other stuff they prescribed. Might help.

Did it just start?. I'd consider allergies from pollen but a bit late. Try not taking him out for a while in case it's something from the outside. Wash all his shit, bed, pillow and stuff.

What is his diet?. No chocolate and salt.

Allergen is possible they keep the dog on a no corn or wheat dog food, it is possible it got into the neighbours trash. Picture is usualy what they get or something similar.
After a camping trip "it really came on strong" and there are alot of animals owned/stary near the property skunk, fox, raccon, cats, horses, chickens...
