So far only happens when I'm watching movies. Whole computer freezes. Speakers buzz.

I'd be inclined to believe that except that I can play DOOM with graphics max'd out for hours at a time with no problems.
But it will crash randomly with videos.
Codec issue? Driver issue?
I uninstalled the GFX card drivers for now and I'm going to watch movies all night to test it.
How are you watching movies? From disc? Mkv files?

Streaming, so whatever the site offers.
Sometimes mkv. It happens with different sites.
wrong driver. google the exact model of your laptop and download the correct driver. If you're using Linux you shouldn't have this problem, update the kernel..

Graphics driver?
OP here,
Also, I am usually able to watch videos for a while and the system will work fine. I just watched hours of Stranger Things streaming and I paused the video and the system crashed to a screen similar to the OP photo.

Okay. This is good.
I've uninstalled the gfx driver and all its related software and installed the one from the website. I'll report back.
Could it be a driver other than the geforce one?
Should I disable the onboard graphics?
Running shitty integrated intel HD graphics and a GTX 970M
