Hello! I'm getting a lenovo thinkpad with windows 7 on Monday, any suggestions on some solid antivirus, music, or add on software? I would ask /g/ but I checked the sticky and was directed here instead.
>Windows 7
Consider upgrading to 10 when you get it.
>Anti-virus
Malwarebytes / Spybot S&D
>Music
Spotify / Foobar
>Add-on software
Eh?

Don't listen to this guy, there's no reason to consider it at all.

Install gentoo.
>solid antivirus
You won't need an antivirus if you install gentoo.
>music
I like Audacious. Clementine is fine too.
>add on software
Depends on what you want.
For videos, I'd go with mpv.
For ebooks, calibre.
For comics/image folders, mcomix.
Firefox as a browser, with (let me check my currently installed addons) Add to search Bar, Classic Theme Restorer, Flash Video Downloader, Greasemonkey, HTTPS Everywhere, MEGA ff addon, uMatrix, uBlock Origin (for whenever I turn off uMatrix yet I still want no ads) and user agent switcher. I'd also recommend, for greasemonkey, loadletter's 4chanX, Anti-Adblock Killer, ViewTube and Bypass Youtube Age Verification.
qBitTorrent as torrent client.
HexChat (or xchat) for IRC.
Gimp with g'mic and gimp-gap for image manipulation.
ffmpeg for multimedia conversion.
Geany for programming.
LibreOffice for, well, office shit, I suppose.
... I don't know what else to recommend. Depends on what you want to do.

There are absolutely reason to upgrade to Windows 10.
Quicker booting and shutdown, DX12 ready, proper UEFI and USB3 support. Sure, you could sit on 7 for 4 years, but then you'd have to upgrade anyway, unless you want an insecure operating system.
Besides, OP sounds like a pretty casual computer user. Upgrading wouldn't affect him negatively in any way.

Other than the factory keylogger, of course.
Officer pls.

Ah yes, the factory keylogger that comes bundled with Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. Yeah, sure, maybe he doesn't want that, but then I'd recommend Linux.

7 and 8.1 come with a back door, though the back door has been there in a way or another since at least XP.
10 is the only one with the proven keylogger.

Which can easily be turned off in the control panel. The telemetry updates are in 7 and 8 as well, so if privacy is a concern you should just stay away from Windows all together.
Besides, I don't think Microsoft cares that you fap to traps and lolis.

Thanks Goebbels.
You don't need AV, just Common Senseā¢ 2016
Anyway, must have software
Firefox (browser, if it doesn't do it for you, go shitpost on /g/)
Thunderbird (email client)
Hexchat (IRC client, customizable, light, no CLI memery)
qbittorrent (torrent client, FOSS)
7zip (for unzipping, duh)
Audacity (music editing)
Exact Audio Copy (ripping software)
Foobar2000 (music player, highly drivable)
Sony Vegas (vid editing software)
Photoshop (image editing software)
MPC-HC (video player, needs some plugins to be good, just install Kawaii Codec Pack, it has all the plugins and settings you'll need, or mpv if you plan to dual boot with Linux)
image viewer is up in the air, I use several for different reasons (quivi for manga reading, honeyview as an image viewer for like 4chan and shit)
Malwarebytes for occasional scans if Common Sense fails you
Notepad++ (text editor)
Rainmeter (ricing, do as much as you feel comfortable with)
This should cover most of your bases, idk what else you'd need besides office shit but I don't really know anything better than m$office

Try mcomix for both, negroe.
