I dropped my Samsung Galaxy s5 and the screen doesn't work now.
I want to just get my pictures of the phone by plugging it into my computer.
But I need to be able to verify my computer's access to the files on my phone before the files will even show up on my computer, and I can't do that if I can't access the screen.
Is there any way I can just get these files off my phone without access to the phone's screen?

No. I forgot to mention that.
I think there was something wrong with the SD card that I had, so it was all on the phone.

get an MHL-HDMI cable and hook it up, then connect a bluetooth controller to navigate. it really depends on how bad you want it all.. you should have been backing up
