I want to recover files from some old flash drives using DiskDigger, but I'm concerned about possible infection. The drives are about 10 years old, back when i was still in high school. I remember sticking a few of them in school computers. I also shared a computer with my parents that was once infected with a nasty Internet Security 2010 malware. I am just kinda weary about sticking these drives into my current system, what should i do

That's the unsexy solution.

Download and burn a linux live CD. No, I said "CD" not "usb"... Fucking pay attention. Unmount your HDD (or unplug it if you're wearing a tinfoil hat), then boot into your live CD and browse the usb like a boss.

actually easy as fuck.
download a linux mint iso from the website (x86 or x64 depending on what windows you have installed), then use unetbootin or universal USB installer (not sure if that works for CDs but i don't see why it wouldn't)
next, boot ur computer with the usb plugged in and at bios hit F12 or whatever your boot device changer is and ur good
