I have an old HDD that won't boot, even though it was fine when I put the entire desktop into storage. Whatever the case, I want to format it using my current desktop but can't into Windows file permissions.
tl;dr is there any way around windows file security to wipe a drive?

where do you need permissions? i don't follow. you can always remove partitions and format on secondary disks.

To clarify for...well, my sake now, I have two HDDs in this computer right now. One is an old <300GB thing that should have Windows and a bunch of data on it. But, when I try to boot from it, it gives me an error message in the BIOS telling me that it can't and that I need to insert a disk.
So, naturally trying to avoid the frustration, I tried to format it but the Windows filesystem prevented me from doing so. Dban just straight nuked it for me, so all is well.
