>Ziad Rahbani (also Ziyad al-Rahbany Arabic: زياد الرحباني, born 1956) is a Lebanese composer, pianist, playwright, and political commentator. His compositions are well known throughout the Arab world. Many of his musicals satirize Lebanese politics both during and after the civil war, and are often strongly critical of the traditional political establishment.
Real real good stuff. His Album "Bennesbeh Labokra...Chou?" fooled a couple of very knowledgeable Brazilians into thinking the following was composed by a brazilian due to his mastery of bossa nova. The album is pure bossa nova, I'm HOOKED. Can't seem to find any youtube links.
Sample track from another album (not really bossa, but close) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCnhFoFwq0w
Also João Gilberto (e.g. Chega de saudade), Antônio Carlos Jobim (e.g. wave), Astrud Gilberto are a given.
The album "5 Na Bossa" is a good collection too. Also look into hard bossa, samba jazz, brasilian fusion.
