The text is there long enough to read if you skim it and it is generally meant to communicate something about the scene. The main thing is the color of the card. It's basically there to show when the internal mood or tone of a character is very different from what they're saying on the surface, which is made clear in the books, obviously through narration, but the show uses the cards instead. So someone says something playfully, but there's a red card showing that they actually are very angry about it. It's sometimes something more complex, like a character saying something, and a black card showing them hiding a secret, then later a different character says something else, with the same color card, to show they're the one actually involved in the secret thing. It's all pretty straightforward, assuming you at least know color words in Japanese are familiar with the kind of associations and puns are being made.

well if it helps I believe the irl Japanese SF were sent over to America and trained by our forces, and iirc the spetnaz and Seals were fighting each other as well as being attacked from out of no where by the JSDF, so it became a dicey situation for even the best teams out there. but of course, thats what I recall, cant remember the scene perfectly

too much of the america nationalism aint cool either, but they as well as the Spetnaz and the SAS got a lot more reason to tote around their bravado and badassness. Cause they are, they proved it in actual combat situations. But I feel like the scene in question didnt go too overboard, got very close to it, but not too much.

Played with VirtualDub 1.10.4 (x64) to make WebM
Failed to use softsubbed mkv until I found an obscure post saying to rename VSFilter.dll to VSFilter.vdf
Did it with xy-VSFilter 3.0.0.306 x64.

It does start to get a bit of old hat, in anime, where all these hot babes keep hitting on young guys, and they keep fighting them off. (Though at least this character kinda has an excuse.)

I mean, think what'd be like if Jap girls thought guys would actually react to overt sexual advances this way. (When in reality, any guy in that situation would turn around and fuck the living shit out of her.)

I realize, as do they, this is just comic fantasy, but this particular trope is just wearing thin on me.
