it was a routine circus performance (in Lviv, Ukraine) and the next lion in the group was to be released into the show. This lion was obviously very agitated and aggressive in his cage, and the other trainers should have realized this before carelessly letting him out.
But it was released anyway, and soon after it was out it attacked that trainer who you see in the webm who is wounded with the pole. This is when the circus music stopped and the audience started freaking out.
They managed to get the lion to let him go by using that spray shit, but it was still acting standoffish and aggressive. The trainer was probably cocky and considered himself experienced with techniques for establishing dominance over such unruly lions, but he was also injured and probably angry/vengeful over the lion mauling him, so he poked it in the fucking eye when it acted like it might attack again. This of course just made the lion go berserk, and several of the other lions couldn't help but join in the attack due to their animal instincts.

Hide is a skill, so you would be qualifying ranks anyways, at level 20 you could have up to 23 ranks I think - if it was a class skill - Level +3 max for class skills. The problem with a D&D reference here is your use of the hide check. Inherently the person hiding is kinda fucked by default. You are going to have to roll each time a shark passes. You however have one thing going for you - you at least don't have to roll on move silently - because then you have twice the chance to fail the roll and get noticed.
