Les Claypool is definitely creative but he plays very sloppily live and I really don't get why people put him up as one of the "greatest musicians". Of course he does all these gimmicks, but Victor Vooten is a whole other league, technically and also musically, and there are many bassists more deserving of that title. Claypool was a huge inspiration to me, but he is artistically barren at this point, and in review all but his most iconic basslines (tommy the cat, Jerry was a racecar driver, American Life, and a few others) really have any nuance to them. A lot of his stuff is much more basic than it sounds or just isn't that good. Primus is great as a whole, but Claypool shouldn't be put up there with Wooten.

That's why bass players don't move a lot on stage. It's not because they're stupid or bored, it's because proper bass playing requires a huge amount of concentration. If you're even slightly out of time, the whole band sounds like shit.
