eh, just another artist dead. somehow, after they die they all become the greatest people to ever grace the earth. happend with cobain, jackson, williams, ledger, winehouse, etc and is bound to happen again. taste is subjective, so there's nothing wrong with not liking his music. just be aware that (as the reactions in this thread show) people don't take kindly to honesty about dead people, for whatever reason. i'm sure there are a select few who actually express their feelings since they've had a deep emotional bond with that artist. but most probably just jump the bandwagon. i guess it's a combination of rose-tinted memories bubbling to the surface, herd mentality and this weird social convention that you're not supposed to speak ill of the dead but instead laud them.

personally - meh, he's had some good music. nothing i would freak out about now. Space Oddity and the whole Major Tom business is kinda legendary though and has influenced many other artists and he's done some good collaborations as well (most notably to me with Queen on Under Pressure). but in total he's just another decent musician of days gone by.

A friend of mine father worked as an Audio Engineer. He was working for one of Bowie's concerts and David came up to him to check on how things were going. He had a picture of his son on the equipment and David asked him about him. Told him to "tell me more about your son". Dude was classy as hell, loved his fans, and changed the music, and music video industry. His influence is felt in countless artists. Yeah, probably (certainly) did drugs...he was a child of the 60's and 70's, big shock. Yeah, some of his songs were real stinkers. What artist doesn't have a few? But his attitude, his influence, and even in the face of death his dedication make him way more than just "another artist". You can have your opinion, that's one thing, but denying the fact that he made a major difference in the industry is ignorant, and you just come off as a cunt.
