The scary thing is he's probably the sanest of the GOP candidates, aside from maybe Jeb or Romney. He was on on mainstream TV for over a decade and is good friends with plenty of "liberals" in Hollywood and beyond, he's not as crazy as the news makes him out to be. He says a lot of stuff because he's used to being on TV rather than campaigning (where saying as little as possible is the norm) and his whole style is about being absurdly larger than life but at the end of the day he'd be no worse than Schwarzenegger was for California -- if anything he'd bring in a lot of new blood to shake things up, which really can't hurt at this point.

I'm legitimately trying to learn, in detail, about each candidate's history, where they stood and where they stand now. Right now, I'm leaning Trump. I can't believe it, but he seems like the right guy for right now. I really just want to see where he takes it. We've had politicians, who are all the same, running things for too long. I want to see what a guy like this would do. Even if he fails miserably, I just want to see what it looks like

This entire election is a joke. The GOP is rolling out its most incompetent group of candidates to date. The Democrats have Hilary, who sucks but sucks nowhere near as bad as the BEST of the GOP candidates right now and only gets the level of hate she does because she's a woman. Bernie is a strong damn candidate, but the media isn't talking about him- they're too busy sucking Trump's dick. So with their mouths full, they can't say much about the guy who isn't in the pocket of the corporations that bankroll them.

>but... the bank bailouts were mostly spearheaded by the republicans, as well as putting us into the hundred years war Mk. II.

Why do people like you always talk about Rebublicans and Democrats? You are being fooled. That's just a single party. It's the establishment. They both perform a show to get votes, but ultimately they decide everything in a bipartisian way. You see, Bush started the Patriot Act stuff, and Obama made it worse.

The point is that in the US you won't become a powerful politician unless you are being paid by some interest group. You have virtually zero chance to become a Senator unless some big group pays for your election campaign costs. And big business has the most money. It doesn't matter whether the next President will be called Rubio or Clinton, they are both establishment politicians and will decide exactly the same stuff. They'll just use different names. If banks go bust it doesn't matter whether it's Rubio or Hillary, if they get called by their owners and get told "bail out those banks" they'll do it. Rubio will perhaps say he defends America and Hillary will claim that the banks going bust is a conspiracy and a part of the war on women.

It's establishment versus anti-establishment. The anti-establishment guy on the GOP ticket is Trump, the anti-establishment guy on the DEM ticket is Sanders. I respect Sanders for not being a member of the political mafia. I just don't agree with his political positions. He's the ultimate example of an old white men telling us how bad old white men are, and he's a real Socialist. Take a look at Venezuela. They have huge oil resources, yet they have to import their fuel and they have the biggest inflation on the planet. Take a look at what socialism did in Eastern Europe. That's what socialism does for you.

Sanders won't make it, he doesn't have the money. He's basically like Ron Paul. Not establishment, but he doesn't have the money. Trump is self-funding and can win the nomination.

Sorry, Mr. Cuck, but you're wrong. I don't see how the hell you fags actually think Trump does well in these debates. He gets blown the fuck out every single time, and then goes and whines to the media about the media.

He has no idea what he's doing on the debate state
>>
>>863244
Most of Trump's supporters are young people who think he's going to change things. People my age thought the same about Obama and look how that turned out. Anyone who has been through a couple of election cycles knows the parties are playing both sides against each other so they can keep the cash coming in.
>>

Well I hope Larry David meant what he said
>>
>>866711
Is it worth my time to vote for an independent? I know he won't really win, but the two parties don't deem very helpful if this is how it is.
>>
>>866898
I voted for Jill Stein in 2012, and will do so again in 2016. You should always vote for a third party candidate if their views match yours. There are two main reasons, one practical and one philosophical.

1. Two party candidates aren't looking for individual votes. They don't care about winning the popular count. All they want is electoral votes (state level shit). So if you live in a state like Texas or California, whose electoral votes will always reliably go to one party or another, your vote means absolutely nothing if you vote for a major party candidate. They don't give a shit about you.

But third party candidates, by contrast, DO care about how many individual votes they get. After all, the threshold for them to be included in the presidential debates is 5 percent. If they can get 5 percent of the popular vote, they're absolutely made. That's the goal they're shooting for. So no matter what state you live in, if you and all your friends vote for a third party candidate, you're actually doing them a tiny favor, unlike if you vote for a major party candidate, in which case you're just throwing your vote away.

(I mean, practically speaking I guess your vote is insignificant on a national scale either way, but it has zero significance if you vote for a major party, whereas it has non-zero (albeit negligible) significance if you vote for a third party.)

2. The philosophical reason to vote third party is that it is preferable to vote for the person you most agree with, regardless of whether they have a chance of winning or not. If you compromise your values and vote for the lesser of two evils, then you have to shamefully admit that you voted for someone, when they get into office and inevitably start fucking shit up and just generally being a gigantic pawn of the mega-banks or whatever. If you vote for a third party candidate, you keep your conscience clean. A friend of mine voted for Barack Obama in 2012, for example, and now regrets it.
>>
>>866898
Depending on the views of your 3rd party candidate and the state you live in a vote for a 3rd party is potentially a vote for the side you don't want to win.
In 200 someone who would typically vote for Nader would be more on the Dem side of things, by not voting for the Dems they were depriving that side of a vote and effectively voting for the GOP. A vote for Nader was a vote for Bush essentially. And considering the closeness of that race every vote did count.

That said, if you live anywhere other than a swing state, by all means vote for whoever the fuck you want, because it barely matters.

>>867076
>philosophical reason

>>
>>867113
>Fuck off.

What? The philosophical reason is the only one that really has any motivating power, since the practical reason is a rather moot point anyway, since your vote hardly matters either way, on a national scale.

All that really matters on an individual level is keeping your own conscience clean, and voting for the person who most represents YOU.

There is a strong argument to be made that votes act as a form of speech, and thus if you really hate both the other candidates it costs you nothing to vote for someone else and gives you the power to send a message. It can inform the parties on what issues they need to work on (Woah, we lost a bunch of votes to that candidate who only cares about making college cheap, we should add that to our platform to try and get his voters) and also send a message to other voters (11%? That's more than I expected, maybe it wouldn't have been a waste to vote for her. Maybe next time.)

Bernie Sanders got his seat in the senate after 3 or 4 failed campaigns, but every time voters saw that a sizable minority had voted for him and gained confidence to vote for him the next time around. And following Naders run in 2000, the Democrats have become (at least media-wise) much more progressive and "green".

At the end of the day, the president has far less power than Congress or local government. You should care more about your senate race than the presidency, and you should know more about your town council members than the president. You can actually make a difference at the local level, and your representatives and senators actually write the laws. The president just signs stuff and gives speeches. He "Presides" over the federal system.

As a side-note, note the language in this law. It uses "he" as a pronoun for the president. Strawman harder, bro.

The global capitalist economy is controlled by an international clique of power hungry globalists. They keep wages low, taxes on the rich low, and governments, especially the american government, cucked into leaving their operations unregulated.

That you defend these fucking reptiles makes you less than a man.

>why would anyone want to vote for the green party?

Because they're the closest thing to a socialist party that this country has on the presidential level. They're the only good party a proper red socialist like me can vote for. Even Sanders is more pink than red.

>is it because Stein promised you free stuff?

Ah yes, the tried and true "LIBERALS ONLY WANT HANDOUTS" meme among brainwashed conservatives.
>>
>>872296
I'm not conservative, actually. I'm also curious why you can write "cuck" because I thought 4chan auto-changes that to "kek" now. Or maybe that's not on all boards? I'll need to test. Let's see here:
>kek cuck desu desu

Now, you said this:
>Because they're the closest thing to a socialist party that this country has on the presidential level. They're the only good party a proper red socialist like me can vote for
And that's fascinating to me, American socialists aren't very common. How long have you been a socialist? How did you get into socialism? (I'm really not going anywhere with that, rhetorically, I'm just personally curious.)
Which country/countries has come closest to achieving socialism? Why, in your opinion, have all attempts to establish a socialist state ultimately ended in failure?
Where I'm sitting I think there are some very sensible, common-sense reasons as to why life in e.g. West Germany became so much better than life in East Germany, despite EG having what I'm sure you would consider a fairer, more reasonable, more ethical constitution. I have never been giving very plausible explanations, by socialists, as to how socialism can be so much better if it has produced so much worse results than western liberal democracies like Iceland, Switzerland, Japan, etc.. Have you given a lot of thought to these questions?
>>
>>872304
>How long have you been a socialist? How did you get into socialism?

I think I went through a brief moderate to conservative phase when I was around 17-19 years old, but I've gradually grown more and more liberal over time since then. I just see how far into the trash the capitalists have stomped this country, and can't help but feel passionately that they need to be stopped.

Once upon a time, America had an actual functioning middle class. People could pay their way through college, buy a house, raise a family, and retire comfortably. The minimum wage was a living wage, and a rising tide lifts all boats, so you didn't have to be at minimum wage to feel the benefit from that. The government taxed the rich on the order of 70-90 percent in the top bracket, kept the trusts busted, and regulated the banks to prevent them from getting into the speculations market.

Then Reagan and his billionaire buddies came and took over everything, and undid all of the structural changes we made after the great depression to prevent a second from ever occurring. Now everyone's working fucking 90 hour weeks just to barely pay rent. Nobody can afford college, and if they can they end up saddled with crippling debt for the rest of their lives. Forget buying a home, forget retiring. The american dream has become a pipe dream.

These people did this to us – the billionaire capitalist class, untaxed, unregulated, unprosecuted for their crimes. An international clique of globalist elites who control all of the mega-corporations that rule our economy.

It is the new feudalism. And socialism is the only answer to it.

>Which country/countries has come closest to achieving socialism?

I dunno. Probably some scandinavian country.

>Why, in your opinion, have all attempts to establish a socialist state ultimately ended in failure?

They haven't. As I mentioned, there are some countries in northern Europe today that seem to be doing just fine with something resembling it.
>>
>>872307
No country in Northern Europe has ever attempted to establish a socialist state (except for Finland in 1918, which never got off the ground). Private property rights and free trade are fundamental corner stones of our societies. We are, very much, western nations.

I also believe that an attempt to copy our system(s) would cause enormous disasters for the Americas in particular. One of the reasons is that you are not homogeneous enough, primarily (but not exclusively) politically speaking. Sweden, e.g., becomes less homogeneous by the year (owing to its unreasonable immigration policies); and with that, less and less stable. The rise in popularity for totalitarian policies is particularly unsettling to me.
>>
>>872314
>No country in Northern Europe has ever attempted to establish a socialist state (except for Finland in 1918, which never got off the ground). Private property rights and free trade are fundamental corner stones of our societies. We are, very much, western nations.

I am drawing a distinction between "red" socialism and "pink" socialism. What you practice in Scandinavia is very much pink socialism, compared to the bleeding blue capitalism that is poisoning America.

>I also believe that an attempt to copy our system(s) would cause enormous disasters for the Americas in particular. One of the reasons is that you are not homogeneous enough, primarily (but not exclusively) politically speaking.

This sounds like a national socialist sentiment, frankly, as opposed to an ordinary cosmopolitan socialist sentiment. I fail to see how immigration or heterogeneity should influence the success or failure of corporate regulation and fiscal policy. Perhaps if we were talking about welfare, then that might be an issue, but even then I would object on the grounds that welfare states only ever fail because they are incompetently designed.

The pink socialism of Scandinavia worked well in the United States from about the 1940s to the 1970s, and we did not abandon it because we became more racially diverse or anything like that. We abandoned it because we experienced a brief economic downturn during the Ford and Carter presidencies, which allowed the demagogue Reagan to come to power and tear down the system that had otherwise been serving us so well for so long, and which really only needed minor adjustments to be able to deal with things like stagflation.

>I am drawing a distinction between "red" socialism and "pink" socialism.
That sounds awfully arbitrary. I object to the notion that Norway has abolished private property rights, and the notion that have no free trade; and as such, we are not a socialist state by any reasonable definition. I think that pointing to us – western, liberal countries – as "successful socialism" is at best misinformed and at worst highly manipulative.
>I fail to see how immigration or heterogeneity should influence the success or failure of corporate regulation and fiscal policy.
I said homogeneous politically. Consider the following: In Norway, some 90-95% of the people believe that government should fully or nearly fully be in charge of education. In the US, that number is closer to... I dunno, maybe 10-20%? It's certainly no higher than 33%. You cannot, I think you would agree, very successfully enforce policies which the majority the population (or a very significant part of it) opposes. Such policies will require much more coercion and resources. As a very concrete example; as the number of totalitarian Islamists in Sweden rises (and it does rise, very much so), it becomes harder and harder to enforce secular politics which that group opposes; and it becomes harder and harder to ignore their attempts to influence the policies of Sweden.
>>
>>872380
>western, liberal countries
It slipped my mind that "liberal" actually means "leftist" in America so I should probably clarify that I meant to use this word in its European sense.
>>
>>831114
He changed ties right before firing him.
>>
>>872380
>I object to the notion that Norway has abolished private property rights, and the notion that have no free trade; and as such, we are not a socialist state by any reasonable definition.

As I said, you are definitely not "red" (pure) socialists. But it is indisputable that you definitely incorporate a lot of socialist principles into your economic and fiscal policy. You mix socialist ideas into your governance. This sort of mixture is what I mean when I say "pink" socialism. It is a responsible sort of governance, that strives to improve the basic standard-of-living of average citizens as its primary goal. Contrast this with the american system, which has no such goal. The goal of the american system is to make the super-rich even richer, at the expense of the poor. Our system is utterly coopted by the billionaire capitalists. What I am saying, and the reason why I say that I am a socialist, is that this whole system needs to be overthrown (not necessarily violently), and a system like yours reestablished – a system in which it is the wellbeing of the average american with which the government is the most concerned.

And I know what you mean by "liberal". I have a friend from New Zealand, where they still use the word in that sense.
>>
>>872380
Anyway, as for your remarks about political homogeneity, I really don't think it matters. Once a policy has been passed into law in this country, the will to fight against it slowly drains out of its opponents. The republicans, for example, have already started to stop caring about the Affordable Care Act, even though it was practically the entire conservative raison d'être for several years. Because the program has survived their attempts to dismantle it, and because it has actually benefited people substantively, and thus become popular among the political moderates who decide elections, the party has realized that it is a losing supposition to oppose it, and have removed it from their rhetoric. And once Fox News stops talking about something, all of the nation's conservatives seem to forget about that thing within 15 minutes. They're like the mindless drones from 1984: when the ministry of truth (Fox News) tells them we've always been at war with Eurasia, they go along and don't think twice.

Likewise, if we successfully managed to pass a program to nationalize or partly nationalize all of the public universities in the country, and finally implement free higher education for all, there would be staunch opposition to it only for the first few years before the uproar from the Fox News drones would inevitably start to die down. The program, because it helped people and made americans lives better generally, would become popular among the moderates, just like the Affordable Care Act, and the republican party would be forced to abandon repealing it as part of their platform. And once again, as soon as Fox News stopped talking about it, the conservative drones would stop caring about it too.

Why did you think Obama was gonna change anything? Because he said the word "CHANGE"? Because he was black?

He is an establishment candidate. Funded by lobby groups and tech/comms companies among other things.

Every time I see Jeb I smile. Even when he is angry, he looks so dorky. He can't even stand still without looking ridiculous.

Limited government; anti-totalitarianism, individualism, pro-free markets... so rightism, not leftism.

Norway's considerably liberal constitution, for example, was a direct result of the age of Enlightenment and strictly limits the power of the state. Thanks to that, we are not and have never been a socialist country (unless you count the years when we were occupied by the national socialists).
