Escape from tarkov any good?
>>
>>1808371
I like it, I'm really bad at it though, haven't even risked a real match yet just been fucking around on offline (you dont gain or lose anything when you play offline matches, but every death in online you lose everything on the character that cant fit in your special case)
one thing it would benefit from would be more competitive modes, right now the only incentive to kill another player is to steal their shit since any number of people can escape the map, I want like a TDM/arena mode or at least a battle royale meme mode

tarkov is in the same vein as stalker/metro but it's not filled with mutants, the only hazards are human scavenger AI and other players in the exclusion zone

The vacuum of space is silent to a degree. If you were in a spaceship there is a good likely hood you would be constantly pelted by space debris and that would create sound. Though you wouldn't be able to hear an asteroid hit another asteroid unless you were in a gaseous cloud. I believe in those gaseous clouds there can be something akin to thunderstorms. Again if you are in the cloud you would hear thunder but outside the cloud in the vacuum of space you would hear nothing. it's not a hardware issue, it's a brain processing issue
VR sickness caused by movement without actual physical movement is the same as when people get carsick
the brain sees the world moving but the body is not experiencing the movement, the inner ear doesn't know how to handle these mixed inputs which results in anything from dizziness to nausea
now maybe down the line the headsets might be able to better trick the brain to prevent this but that would be years off, at best right now the easiest way wouldve been up the price of the headset bundles and instead of having roomscale to instead have one of those directional treadmills so the player can walk anywhere instead of needing to teleport or use analog movement and risk sickness

If you buy a car that has been marketed to have certain specs and you can prove that you were lied to you can sue the manufacturer for compensations.
Video game makers on the other hand don't have to fear from the law the same way. There are no precedents and it's a grey area.
I bought the game the day it came out, watched all the dev diaries and read the beta testers experience with the game. The beta was absolutely different from the finished game. The dev diaries have straight up lies in them. Even with all that the game was somewhat interesting. Then they started nerfing the more interesting aspects of the game income wise. First they nerfed the spawn rate of lucrative bounty hunter targets, then they straight up lowered their bounty value by half, pretty much killing any reason why you would go out there and risk your ship for bounties that cant even pay your ammo at some point. Then, after people started to get bored of the shit payout of bounty hunting, went to "piracy". The "daddies" in the community were furious that "trolls" were "ruining their fun" by "griefing" them.
Player piracy was in the dev diary, it was supposed to be a major aspect of the game, pirates raiding miners (mining was literally the most boring and least paying shit job you could ever do from day 1 unless you bugged the game somehow).
The reaction of the devs was: - making a private mode, - justify combat logging, - making interdictions way harder for the initiating side, - disabled loot drops from destroyed ships.
cont.
>>
cont. from: >>1814510
Player piracy vanished but griefing did not. Another aspect of the game technically cut from the game.
Planetary descent being a free addition to the game was another promise I heard was given to the kickstarter. It's now an expansion pack costing as much as the main game.
Right now all you can do is be a space trucker forever in a dead universe, go "explore" an even more dead part of said universe or buy the expansion for racing on dead moons with your buggy. Last time I tried out CQC it was almost dead with 10 minute matchmaking times and a buggy matchmaking that matched level 5 against level 20 players.
I know calling others names on an anonymous board makes you feel grown up, but things are not always black and white.

>>
>>1814512
I'm pretty sure I got more than 300 hours in that game. 2 of my friends quit way earlier and they were absolutely right. Except you won't find the games marketed as such on the store page.
You will not see a description talking about how the multiplayer works in No Man's Sky on the page because No Man's Sky doesn't have multiplayer.
The fact that the different aspects of the game aren't what they once were that doesn't change that they are still there, a part of your car will ultimately change as time passes, you did not buy the car in the shape it was 20 years after purchase.
>I bought it on launch day.
Just stop it. Don't do this shit. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.
The only thing I can agree with you on is that, if the fact may be (I didn't follow the game before release), that they promised the ability to be on the planets as part of the kickstarter, it is kinda bullshit that they released it like they did.
It is ultimately your own fault that you didn't make a real effort to look into how the game was at launch and the path they were taking it from first patch.
>>
>>1814539
That's not even me, yet again you don't pay close enough attention and jump to conclusions.
>"We are planning to make our car with this type of engine that will be really good".
>When the car comes out it has a different engine which is slightly worse.
>"Wah I thought the car would have this engine that they promised before the car was even released and didn't bother to look it up!".
>>
>>1814548
Made a fast google search and found a tldr on what was promised.
Note that these promises were made after preorder was opened, some long after the kickstarter finished.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/223142-Broken-Promises-A-Collection

Precedents should be in court, punishing these bad practices.
Nobody would have thought about lieing to their customers back in the day.
I can't even imagine back in the day someone telling me not to buy Red Alert or Quake 3.

>>
>>1814599

>>
>>1814578
Right so I spent a bit glossing over that list of yours and as it would seem, most of those major features are in the game, they just aren't as fleshed out as you and the devs might have hoped that they would be.
You can't sue a movie because the characters didn't interact in the expected way.
Can't sue a car company because of unexpected changes when they still list the features.
Stop pre-ordering shit.
Ultimately if they had gone as in depth as they seemingly hoped that they would be able to they probably have ended up in the same pit as Star Citizen currently is in.
>>
>>1813552
hahahahahahahahaha
>>
>>1814578
Also someone in that thread said that the game was a "ten year plan".

>most of those major features are in the game

Okay, lets see those major features.
- Systems becoming rich and making new stations
Unless scripted by the dev team, nothing like this ever happens, there was a community effort, hundreds of players for weeks testing out the limits of the game, they couldn't trigger any events.
A living and ever changing universe was the most major aspect of this game and was promised dozens of times.

- Random calls for help
Nothing of the sort, only random signals out in fast travel mode, they are random and might have a trader being attacked by low level pirates. They made a whole trailer about this feature and another promise of that living universe.

- Bounty hunting
Players got promised NPC bounty hunting and PvP bounty hunting. NPC being an intricate system wide hunt for pirates.
PvP died due to the buggy instancing, combat logging and the addition of private games.
NPC bounty hunt is a random generated "kill pirate lord named xy" who is always in the system next to you, always in an anaconda and defended by 3 to 5 small ships.
Not very intricate also the payout was horrible compared to the risks.
There was also a bug, it was impossible to find said pirate lord and you couldn't delete the quest until they patched it for a whole month.
The other bounty hunt is going to high density areas to kill NPCs that randomly jump in for cash.
These areas have been nerfed, early after launch you could fight Anacondas for 80000-120000c in these zones. Then they nerfed them, condas hardly jumped in and they had 60000c at most, smaller ships got their bounty nerfed too.

- Trading
In the dev diary lead developer promised trading would be about huge investments for huge profits, stations supply and demand would change depending player activity. Players raiding trade ships would increase demant in station or even trigger economic crisis that traders could exploit.
In reality long trade routes were nerfed,

cont
>>
cont >>1814794
stations auto refill stocks and prices doesn't fluctuate.
The same community effort that tried to trigger base building events were proof of that.
Hundreds of players trading the same items in Type7-9s didn't leave a dent on the prices.
The most profitable trades I have run were 2 systems apart and it was always the same 2 commodities back and forth in my own type9 - later conda. The only way you could get a conda in your lifetime was to grind like this for literally 100 hours. It's not fun.

- Exploration
This is where what they promised actually came true, for the most part.
I didn't buy this game for exploration, didn't do much honestly.

- Mining
Would be part of the exploration, dev diary promised uncharted and unclaimed mining opportunities to be lucrative and a dangerous business. In reality it is a boring and terrible chore. You get a ship, equip it with a smelter and mining laser, go out to a ring with metallic roids and high yield (already charted) and dig at random roids to check what mineral is in them. The instance is always random, rocks are always random in minerals.
If you find gold or Palladium you pick them up one by one manually before they despawn, palladium and gold is very rare and if you are lucky you get 3 full items out of a roid (later patches gave you miner droids that picked up ores for you but used up room and self destructed on your hull randomly making them useless).
Then you go to a station with demand for gold and palladium to sell it. Good job, wasted 1 hour for a profit of a 5 minute trade run.
Mining is not dangerous, you get a random pirate jumping in but usually they jump in far from you out of their aggro range and leave or attack random miner NPSs just to get blasted by the police coming in. If they aggro on you, you just boost out the ring, come back and a new random instance awaits with no pirates.

- Fighting
In the beta, ships were fragile, shields were even more so.

cont
>>
cont >>1814800
We were promised of loot from ships, (salvaging was one of the major elements completely cut and never talked about again) unique weapons, shield generators, engines you could put in your inventory and later equip or sell, they were still promising it after launch for 2 months, then simply said that they are cutting it out of the game, no other reason was given. PvP lost it's skill aspect. The small communities of PvP players died out after getting frustrated of combat logging (again), the buggy instancing (yet again), the lack of balance (larger ship wins always, just reverse that anaconda and you out turn a viper) the lack of ship customization (tracking weapons are always superior, missiles are useless, dont even joke about mines, larger ships have more weapon hardpoints for the same weapons) and the lack of gain (literally nothing gained from PvP, at worst you lose hundreds of thousands on insurance, at best you get a bounty on you). Shield recharge packs (potions) put the last nail into PvP.

- Passenger transport
Beluga liner is the only remnant of this cut content

- Smuggling
Advertised as a major feature you can sell stolen and illegal commodities in certain space stations.
In reality only certain and totally random space stations buy illegal smuggled goods and at a huge discount.
You can most likely lose money on these trades. There was an attempt to "save" smuggling by giving random quests but after some random quests made some people millions in profit from literally jumping between 2 stations the same system (random is random) they quickly cut it out again.

Talked about piracy before, it's as good as dead, NPC piracy is much the same as mining, scan 100 ships to find one that has goods somewhat valuable, try shooting it's hatch open before it jumps away or dies, those goods are stolen so you get the smuggle discount making them even less profitable.
>>
>>1814805
All in all a shell of broken promises and a spit in the face. Developers made clear they don't care about past promises and the lead dev doesn't feel himself accountable to hold onto said promises.

In the beta they throw you into the middle of the story with most of the areas off limits so I cant say what it's like in other parts of the map but I've been attacked by bandits speaking polish and others speaking english, the game's designed to be more of an RPG as opposed to a medieval sim like M&B so the quests are more like traditional RPG quests (I should go investigate this town and see if anybody knows about these bandits)
I dont know how the character creator will work in the full game but the beta gives you a jack of all trades option, a charisma option and a warrior option, I've only done the optional quest of finding the camp I showed in that webm so I could do the combat tutorial so I dont know how the others will play out
you can also talk to every NPC and get useful shit from them from what I've seen

It's fun though.

It has some points that are good. Mainly playing as a Scav, because I can halfway relax around other Scavs and enjoy the looting system and scenery. But yeah, fuck paying 160, I would've smashed a monitor at that point. I think after the initial month of newness to the game, most beta users will be fucking pissed as fuck that they cannot possibly compete with youtubers given enormous loot packages, and alpha players who have memorized every map back to front.

While it is indeed not that great of a habit, it's still a nice thing to do. Wears the dingaling a bit but it's all about expenditure and returns. I buy a new show-off piece about every two years, which I beat down to dirt-tier in that time before selling again. It's fun to not always have to worry about wear.

Never played Dear Esther. If you download Garry's Mod and get the map rp_apocalypse then use youtube2mp3cc.com or org or whatever to download bvdub the art of dying alone as mp3 then import it in steam music player then you can recreate this exact experience. Or just run it in youtube, doesn't really matter I guess since you're not playing online it won't sap bandwidth.

If you have good nvidia graphics card, get Geforce expeirence installed so you can use shadowplay. Can press alt-f10 and save the last 5 minutes of your game, it discards the rest of the footage.
>>
>>1818546

Yeah I haven't had a problem with the docking computer in over 100 landings so far. It's true that there's not much to trading but man I suck at landing.

>The hairs on the back of your neck rise. You feel something from the corridor ahead. The bile rises as you recognize the mass of flesh ahead - human parts in the wall itself. The worst part is that it is moving, calling to you.
>Your nose starts to bleed. You hear voices in your head. They are calling your name.
>Darkness washes over your eyes for a moment, but you recover.
>A voice calls to you. You turn your head and see the image of a forgotten friend, obviously dead. The worms fall from her rotted jaw as your headache grows.
>It is getting harder to move forward. Your foot seems bonded to the floor. You look down, and the flesh of the floor is crawling up your leg.
>Teeth gnaw at your knees. Still, your headache gets worse.
>Something catches your attention, a flash of movement from the ceiling, and then a sliver of bone pierces your eye! With it comes the thoughts of the dead and tortured!
>The pain in your head is maddening. You feel the sins of others wash over your soul. And it gets worse, as your sins answer them. Like madmen, they fight through your psyche, and in the process tear your personality apart.
>Your head is pulsing with the intrusive thoughts of others. The pain grows and grows. Suddenly, as if it never existed, the pain vanishes. You fall to the ground and weep. But something does not feel right.
>The pain in your head does not feel as bad as it did. The effects of this strange corridor do not feel as strong.
>You see the Master of the Super Mutants.
