Where at? It seems pretty shit in the cities I've been in so far, Boston and Providence. But yeah Oberon (or rather the double) was freaking insane martial artist, but the scene also did suspense perfectly and even the in-fight conversation was right. That said, tactically they would have done things differently (me: kendo & fencing with naginata familiarity -- Mountain being all in armor would have said "fuck your stick" and approached fast with blade pointed in center (lifting his arms exposes unarmored underarms and face) while Oberon would have done more trips).

Best western swordfight scene hands-down is the final scene in Rob Roy imho. Of course Liam Neeson never learned to use a 2-handed sword, so his shoulders in Star Wars and Kingdom of Heaven were cringeworthy.

Well, to my knowledge they haven't really had the balls to create any show-only characters (thank fuck they haven't), but they still need to murder characters to keep the stakes high.
At this stage in the story, they can't really work unused characters from the books without pulling some narrative gymnastics as to where they've been all this time, so the cast has been getting smaller and smaller.
This works to the show's favour, cause there's less cast to pay and more screentime to go around.

Of course, because the men are the ones doing the actual fighting and dying it's mostly women left, and I won't deny that it's a bit on the nose that Dany's council consists entirely of Strong Wymyn and Half-Men.
But that same council talked a big game then got rekt by Chad Greyjoy and the Thundercock Brigade, and now over half of them are dead, in chains, or in for a good raping.

And let's not cream ourselves over the books, AFFC and ADWD were pretty convoluted and weak; my first time reading them I could skip whole chapters and not miss a thing.
