Yeah they LOOK disturbing, but they're not even remotely a threat to any human ever over at all.

Unless if their main body was the size of a typical car, THEN they would be a threat to humans, and other animals, but since Earth doesn't have that much oxygen anymore, it's alright.

I need to start making oxygen factories.

Nah, it makes sense. Spiders trigger every "get the fuck away from that" reflex humans have by the way their designed. I had to start putting myself around spiders more often to realize they're just like regular bugs, and now they don't scare me at all. The internet is great for that.

I agree on putting bugs outside though. Only flies don't get that treatment because they're too annoying to catch.

What don't you understand?
>>
>>1787770
The Earth's atmosphere had a MUCH higher concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere millions of years ago. It's what allowed such large prehistoric animals and was so high that a lightning strike could ignite it and cause fire storms.

>>1787883
>was so high that a lightning strike could ignite it and cause fire storms
Ignite what, the atmosphere?
Oxygen doesn't burn on its own, you need fuel.
>>
>>1787902
Yeah the atmosphere itself. Increasing oxygen lowers ignition points of the fuel involved. In this case the fuel was the other 70% or so that made up the rest of the atmosphere

>>1787917

you mean spiders
>>
>>1787998
Um no the fire is way above the surface
>>1788012
Think of it as just barely not able to catch fire but the intense heat of a lightning strike is able to induce a (relatively)small chain of reactions that set off more smaller reactions nearby. It wouldn't be so much "the sky is on fire" but more like flames spreading out and dying out across the sky
>>1788092
And yes 30% oxygen and 70% spiders
>.
>..
Holy shit what a terrifying image
>>
>>1788348
No. Even if there was more oxygen in the air the air itself wouldn't be on fire. It would be abundant fuel to burn plants on the ground. I don't know where you got the idea that somehow more oxygen means that the air would be on fire, but it's wrong.
>>
>>1785865
You wanna get right in on it, it would sink. But that water looks reasonably still, takes spiders ages to drown so the spood would have a decent chance of making it to dry land. Assuming no predators.

tbqh the earth has nearly exactly the same amount of oxygen as it did back then (an insignificant amount being lost to space via probes and probably asteroids splashing some of it out of the atmosphere and into space), it's just that more of it is in non gaseous stages than back then, and now it's dissolved in the ocean or locked in calcareous solids on the ocean floor.
>>
>>1775969
You fucking retarded? Its an amblypigid.

>>1788744

EDF! EDF! EDF!
>>
>>1789801
Not necessarily true. The atmosphere has been, on average, just over 20% for the last 400 million years or so. However it has fluctuated. It peaked.at 30% somewhere around 80 million years ago then plummeted to around 10% right around the mass extinction off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. After that it leveled back out to 20%. In my opinion it's the only other reasonably viable theory to the dinosaur's extinction after a meteor. Perhaps it was a combination or perhaps the meteor itself caused the dramatic change in oxygen and we're off on when the dip actually happened

Nitrogen in the atmosphere renders the oxygen inert... you know that pure ox is highly flammable (look at the apollo 1 disaster) you just forgot about the nitrogen bonding to the oxygen.
>>
>>1791295
Yep
>>
>>1791304
(((((scaryface)))))
Literally the spider
>>
>>1791845
Yeah because nitrogen(an inert noble gas) mixes with oxygen and creates nitrous oxide, which we all know is a totally stable substance. That's why it's used as a fuel to push normal engines past their normal operating speed.
>>
>>1791845
>>1792017
Also, oxygen is not highly flammable. It's an oxidizer. Pure oxygen cannot ignite. It increases how flammable a substance is but pure oxygen cannot produce flames. Same goes with ozone(O3)

Spiders and other arthropods dont think like we do, or like dogs do, or sharks. They've got decentralized bundles of nerves that function like our spinal cord does during reflexive motions, loosely connected with a larger ganglial cluster that coordinates their activity. They're bundles of reflexes with a jukebox switching out the Eat record with the Make Web record with the Bite The Shit Out Of That record. They're more like robots than they are like us. Also think about it this way: we're several hundred to several thousand times their size. Our little finger is barely something their brain can quantify as a distinct entity, and we dont move anything like their prey or normal enemies. It's like registering a mountain as a threat. Unless you're actively causing it pain or jabbing at it like a dick, there's nothing telling it to bite. It's not that there isn't a reason, there literally isn't programming to deal with objects like a human.
tl;dr, we're not on their pred/prey list, so be nice and they've got no reason to bite

That's factually incorrect. Plankton consume oxygen as they are animals and therefore incapable of photosynthesis, thanks for playing though! The oceans take the most CO2 from the atmosphere than anything because CO2 is denser than air and can be consumed by kelp forests (as well as being water soluble). But yeah saying that anything other than a few species of protzoa and all plants photosynthesize is not right in any way shape or form and shows that you get more info from videos online than reading peer reviewed research.

depends on what you call "daddy long legs". What most americans refer to as daddy long legs are really harvestment (opiliones). They don't really hunt bugs like spiders do they tend to harvest fungi and other little bits they can put into their mouths. They're like the scavengers of the arachnids. They don't have any venom at all.

I call complete bullshit.
You mean to say that they have no evolution induced capacity to defend themselves from a much larger threat as if humans are the only things that could ever pick them up or interact with them?
>>
>>1808178

The largest natural predator a spider has is frogs or lizards maybe 10x larger than themselves. You don't see Komodo Dragons or Iguanas eating flies after all.

Can you even begin to imagine a lion trying to hunt down a quarter sized spider? No, because that'd be fucking silly. Where we find silly, they find literally incomprehensible. As he said, we're as tall to them as a mountain is to us.

The bite reflex is only triggered in defense, even if we don't correctly identify their actions as defensive. If they come into our bed while we're sleeping, and we roll onto them and they bite; We'd say they shouldn't be in our fucking bed. They, however, wouldn't have even percieved us as a creature, and thus wouldn't have known to stay away.

I know this sounds strange but n2o really isnt that flammable, its very stable at room temperature, its also not a fuel source in any combustion, its an additional oxidizer like o2, but its advantge is density, you can get alot more n2o in a cylinder then o2, which lets you pump in more gas and have it all combust properly.

So really n2o is no more explosive then pure o2, its only dangerous when its near fuel

I think you're entirely missing the point, which is that arachnids, spiders, and many insects are clearly capable of realizing much larger threats and acting to defend themselves from them without needing to be endlessly prodded or attacked.
>>
>>1810858
>Its not a spider?
That's beside the point. It's about the relative sizes, not the species.

>Its not attacking him?
Yes it obviously is. Those appendages are its mechanisms for attacking prey. That's like saying that a stinging scorpion isn't attacking.

>>

Evry animal need pain to live
>>
>>1812298
The pain is something that say to you that that things is bad for you so is better you don't touch twice
>>
>>1812308
Yeah, most animals require some kind of reaction to bad stimulus, otherwise they would die. But just because a creature has a reaction doesn't mean that they "feel pain" in the same way that we do, or that they have any consciousness like we do.

With our current technology, we could build a simple spiderbot that reacts to certain kinds of touch, just like a living spider. I think both the robot and real spider are such simple systems that consciousness is unlikely.

However, now this encroaches the mystery of consciousness, which is that there's no way to tell if something is conscious unless you ARE that thing. So ultimately we'll never know, because we'll probably never be able to switch places with a spider to know what it's like.

>>
>>1812563
I think that depends on the animal and it's environment. I know you don't do that with snakes because they're ambush hunters and their terrariums usually don't have places for them to completely hide themselves, giving the Rat a chance to fuck the snek's shit up before it has time to line up a strike. Whereas in this instance the spider has plenty of places to line up an ambush

The spiders in the movie are supposed to represent his fear and hatred of women that he believes control his life.

The final scene shows him seemingly happy with where his marriage, but then he gets an invitation to the strip club again. When he seriously considers going back, he goes back to regarding his wife as a spider, so to speak.

Basically, the morale of the movie is that the dude has serious issues with healthy relationships.

Or that he's a Paranoid Schizophrenic, either way not a good "morale", lol
>>
>>1817147

Sharks can perform an investigatory bite. Why can't a whip spider perform an investigatory pinch?

The big problem with the case that you and others are trying to make is that you're taking isolated examples from specific species and trying to apply that to an entire family. Certainly some spiders will be more aggressive. And stinging insects typically have territory, and resources stockpiled that would be desirable to a larger predator - bees with honey, and wasps with their young. More solitary stinging insects typically have their stingers/venom to deal with birds, small mammals, and other arthropods. It makes sense that handling them would cause a violent reaction.

That anon can still be correct even with the few counter examples that have been provided, simply because of how many species we're dealing with, and how diverse they are.
