It has nothing to do with era, everything to do with style and the right choice of music.

Also, just because you get 1k per video doesn't mean anything other than a lot of people enjoy rap.

Because it's dark, gritty, synth-drenched, noir-sounding, the perfect aesthetic for Taxi Driver, guess how many views it has? None, I never uploaded it to my channel. Views mean shit when it comes to artistic choices other than showing there are people who are willing to watch.

I made webm related, notice how not all of the cuts sync to the music.
That's just part of the idea, the song is loose, rocking, slinging, shredding itself apart with its heavy metal sound, just like the video I put it to. My point is it doesn't have to be fast-paced, tightly-edited to convey an idea, if you're holding editing like that to such a degree than you're asking quite a fucking bit from content creators. At the same time, it's not a black or white situation, most of the time, like 80% of the webms I find on here are a nice middle ground that flows well with the music while not being cut at every beat.
