That is the only mad max film I have watched and it was kind of meh. It wasn't that bad but I don't see how it became a classic, launched Mel Gibson's career, or deserved a sequel. I still think Mel is a decent actor.

It only works if you understand the original context of the movie.
As in - it was the first movie like that, ever.

It's kind of like watching Bullit nowdays. By itself, from modern perspective, the movie is fucking boring and the famous "great car chase scene" is so-so...
... but when it came out, it was THE most ground-breaking film ever made, with the good guy doing more harm than good and the chase being the best such thing filmed and first car chase fully filmed in detail, on spot and so on.

Look, you stupid motherfucker, this is how modern, and in the same time CHEAP marketing works:
>Studio throws together bunch of memes
>A month before premiere they throw them on their official page
>Bunch of fags who follow the page religiously see them and repost them, while making their own
>People keep making their own pics
>The buzz spreads
It's like you are using internet since yesterday.

And this shit goes for GoT ever since the series started. Every single fucking season you can fucking set your clock based on the time when this shit starts. 30 days before premiere of the first episode of new season.
Always.
For past 6 years
>>
>>1767914
Nah.
>>
>>1767821
>>1768060
And continuing from there:

If you want to avoid assocciation with this bullshit practice, here is the deal:
Post things from "muh favurite seriez" in other time of the year than anticipation for the next season when the marketing campaign is going on. It's funny how there are almost no posts about GoT outside the time when the series is airing new episodes and the month before that. Literally the next week after the season ends, the buzz dies.
Apparently you stop liking your series by then and your interest decreases to nothingness. And then it restarts a month before the series starts airing another season. And died again week after it ends.

Because if that's how being fan of something you call "favourite TV series" works, then I'm fucking speechless.

>Hire well-known actor to play the role of a character that is guaranteed to get killed
It's called "stunt casting" - you get a big name, to get big attention, even if a character is a one-scene wonder, a cameo or someone who disappears early on.
And when you kill character played by such actor, it's shock for the shock. Because the character could be played by pretty much anyone, yet the biggest name they had in the cast was put into that role.

Sorry, I just can't take serious any movie that is about patiotism, part of being Pole. Especially when it's about someone's ELSE patiotism, so it only alienates me as an audience. In case of "We were soldiers" it gets extra points of alienation, since is the movie that tries to play up American involvement in Vietnam as "American soldiers giving their life for the cause and the tragedy of their families back home".

Stupid advice. If the meat is freshly ground at home, there is little danger to eating a rare burger. You can be 99.99% safe with a sous vide burger, or you can learn the time to pasteurise your meat properly.

Basically, the FDA's guidelines make it nice and easy for idiots not to kill themselves, but anybody with an ounce of sense can do better. You're missing out.

P.S. I've been eating a rare burger at least once a week for over ten years now, for some extra anecdotal evidence

Listeria monocytogenes and Toxoplasma gondii. E Coli, (see full list)

Eating out you cannot trust that food is prepped or cooked properly to kill bacteria. I only eat stuff that's raised organic grass fed, etc. Even then I had food poisoning once and I don't wish that anyone. Unless you like vomiting once an hour for 10 hours until it's dry heaves. And unable to eat for 2 days. The meat smelled fine, tasted fine. Regardless I hope people use meat thermometers but I know they're lazy and I don't trust restaurants at all.

This. And Mad Max is the best example of this in action. First movie - working against miniscule budget. Second movie - pulling every fucking inch of the money they had, while building both good atmosphere and focusing on simple story.
Third movie? Suddenly budget increased 20-fold. The movie turns into incoherent shit that looks nice, but the plot cease to exist half-way through.
Fourth movie? Budget increased 10-fold compared to the last time and they churm up an utter piece of shit that has no plot whatsoever, which is an achievement all by itself and consists out of nothing else, but set pieces.
Throwing money on Mad Max was a mistake.

And the most funny part is how US of A was one of the last countries to sign all the copyrights agreements in funcking late 70s (!), solely because Disney Corporation started to lobby for that, realising the huge marketing potential they will gain thanks to it. >>
>>1769935
If, and ONLY IF, they signed a disclosure for that in their deal.
And such deals are super-rare, because it's always easier to pay the money already. In fact, the percentage earnings are ONLY haldned in two cases:
- there is a very small budget and they can't afford to pay the actor otherwise
- the execs expect from the movie to fail, so it's easier to pay percentage of tiny earnings than put a substantial sum on the table.

How new to film-making business are you, exactly?
>>
>>1769936
so your point is that the books have a main character that dies, and that the show cast a popular actor in the role?

would you rather they cast a nobody in the starring role? or should they have not followed the book's plot?
>>
>>1769936
you're getting assmad over stupid shit is the point that people are making
>>
>>1769935
>Being this naive
If actor agreed to get 5 million bucks, they get 5 million bucks. And not a single cent from the money the movie earned, unless that was part of the deal signed when hired to play the role.
Same goes with film crew, in which only director and script writer are the only people that can earn anything else than just a regular paycheck (and a pretty small one, too), since, duh, it's the crew.
Nobody, but the copyright holders earn anything. And that is divided further on how the copyright is managed and how many entities there are to split.
>>
>>1769936
You are still not getting his character and his death setup the entire series so of course you use a skilled actor for such an important role. It has nothing to do with shock value.
>>
>>1769940
Yes, that's exactly my point. Because outside Sean Bean, there was LITERALLY NOBODY IN THE CAST with truly established name. A bunch of small-fries and a wast majority of NOBODIES hired to play main-stays. They've hired the only "big" name to play the guy that everyone knows is going to die from the get-go.
That's why it's a cheap shock value and not any sort of "artistic decision".

>>1769942
I'm getting ass-mad, because they are missing the point so much, it stopped being funny and became depressing so many stupid motherfuckers can't get something so simple as "shock value"
>>
>>1769945
>>1769937
It is a Hollywood industry standard because of SAG that actors earn residuals or sometimes referred to as royalties.
>>
>>1769946
It DOESN'T MATTER. If you are running a series going for so many years, you pick skilled actors to play the roles that are main-stays. Instead, you end up with a series that has utterly garbage acting, because you've hired a bunch of 3rd rate TV talents to play main roles.
The only exception from that rule is Peter Dinklage, but they've literally hired him on the fact he's the only midget actor that was in proper age.
>>
>>1769951
>Seriously being this naive
It doesn't work the way you imagine it works, chump. And actor get what's in the contract. If the contract doesn't outright say "Mr John Smith gets 0.5% of total earnings the movie ever makes", he gets shit. In fact, if the contract says "Mr John Smith gets 2% of total earnings from ticket sales", then he gets shit from DVD releases.
And then there is of course the merch, which is handled ever since George Lucas became a thing in a form of disclosure that basically gives the studio right to use and abuse your image for the merch, without paying you a cent, unless stated otherwise. And I can't recall a single deal when actors were given profit from merch.

>>
>>1769951
Royalties aren't done like that, you idiot. Like the other anon already explained, unless the deal said you get royalties, you won't get them. It's that simple.
My favourite case example is Tomb Raider movie, the first one, with Jolie, since it describes flawlessly all the nifty tricks you can pull with book-keeping in Hollywood and using nothing but 10 mil, a lawyer and two accountants get a budget of 115 mil, big name in the cast and decent effects.
Anyway, the movie is the best earning video game adaptation to date (not even Ass Creed managed to get past that) after so many years, but the thing is - Jolie got nothing from that. She was hired for a fixed sum and in fact most of the initial budget (7 mil) was spent on hiring her. And that was it. She got her 7 mil. She didn't get anything from tickets and she didn't get anything from DVD. In fact, Eidos Interactive, the GAME publisher, earned more on this due to percentages, than she did with her fixed sum playing the lead.
Welcome to Hollywood.
>>
>>1769948
No people got your fucking point, they just disagreed with your assessment If Eddard had died in Ep. 1, I might agree with you. Different anon and either you didn't saw too many movies in '15, or you have a nasty case of truly shit taste if you consider Fury Road one of the best from that year.
The movie in own year was average. In its own genre of "big budget rehash of old ideas" it was average. And it still pales when compared with Road Warrior it was so desperate to echo, so kinda-sorta is a franchise rape (I wouldn't go as far, but it's far from doing any good to MM as a whole).

And for pretty much any long-lasting MM fan the sole opening scene was enough to throw them away from the movie, since Max survives in it absolutely impossible situation, which was one of the highlights of the original trilogy - he would fucking die if that car crash happend in 1, 2 or even Thunderdome.

Not sure whether to be happy or sad they never made another one.

A fantastic film. The books are incredible too.

First all. Fuck you. Timothy Dalton had a LOT of shit to clean off the brand after the complete joke an ever aging Moore turned it into, which he did remarkably well. He isn't even CLOSE to second worse, which is probably Brosnan, MAYBE Lazenby although his problem was more down to a complete misunderstanding of the character in that George didn't want to play Bond as a complete cunt, which is fair enough, but unfortunately a completely integral part of the role.

> he could grab the net much earlier.

I think maybe he just REALLY HATED James Bond. But in all seriousness I think the director had just seen Star Trek III and really wanted a climactic scene similar to the one from that no matter how hamfisted.
The film has aged in some very awkward ways it has to be said, like with Bond siding with the Taliban.

This show any good?
I watched The Sci-fi Channel for it's first 10 years on television but I never saw a good show come from that channel, so I kinda gave up on it and just haven't bothered watching anything that they've aired.
>>
>>1772832
God dammit real space battles (not star wars and strek) will be absolutely terrifying. Thankfully we'l be long dead and won't have to experience them,
>>

Sci-Fi lost its edge after BSG but The expanse is pretty good.
>>
>>1772893
I was only watching it for MST3K in the end, but I did kinda like SG-1. By the time SGA was airing I was using the internet and just downloading episodes through services like Kazaa and stopped paying for television.

I never did get around to watching BSG, I should though. That was obviously a pretty popular series.

>Having this shit taste to Bonds
Craig is worst, followed by Dalton. Then there is Lazenby, then Moore, then Brosnan, then Connery.

>like with Bond siding with the Taliban.
Rambo 3 ended with the note to "all brave people of Afganistan". AND John Rambo, aka Rambo 4, ended with a note to "brave Karen fighters". Guess who went medieval on half of Birma few years ago, right after they've been playing the "good rebels" role for past 40 years.
This is what you get for putting stupid freedom fighter bullshit in your movies - they age like shit.
