This could likely be /wsg/s only ever math rock thread
It's not for everyone but I'm going to dump some stuff
Well most of my webms were over the file size but oh well
I'm off now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0RWnzd_b_k&ab_channel=specialother
i was digging this, but you left.
>>1747591
thanks for the tunes
I came back because I forgot one, even though it's not math rock someone might like it
>>1747614
>>1747594
I didn't expect anyone to see this thread, you guys made my day
>>1747626
I was expecting Dillinger Escape Plan, since they're really the only Math Rock I know, but got a nice surprise instead. Keep it up anon!
Well I might as well
The thing with this type of math rock is that it sounds similar, I think it's best to listen to it as part of their own 40 minute EPs or whatever. Then I realise how much I'm enjoying it about 20 minutes in
This is a different pace, but a great EP
>>1747651
>>1747666
Just like "Giraffes? Giraffes!" to get the devil's get
Forests is a great band that has math-elements
I don't really like saying "math-elements" like some kind of twat though
Okay I'm really off now, it's 3:30am
Math rock and whatever else I've posted is great, and you should listen to it sometimes
here's a bonus webm I made today
>>1747576
tiaofai vs jinseng
Well, I guess I like math rock now. Thanks OP
Awesome thread OP. Thanks much!
>>1747572
Bump
i'm shit at webm making mainly because i've never bothered learning but here's my favorite math rock song by favorite band, never found a song they've made that I haven't like
in youtube form

Nice! one of my favourites too, I only made this thread because I just learned to make basic webms
Needs more Chon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHvrOQFJFY4
Too lazy too webm it, whole album is good anyway
dilute - 0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogk52AoyFwE
rumah sakit - wind & wing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MyspzEV_T0
hella - hold your horse is (album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWqLiy9TLdg
crom-tech - crom-tech
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn-5t-6vO0E
mick barr is brilliant. this is probably harsher than a lot of "math rock" fans might expect, but it's math rock at heart with lots of distortion.
ahleuchatistas - if, whenever
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9W0K5Wxsg0
they went on after this to do more relaxed & ambient kind of stuff.
grand ulena - gateway to dignity (album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi1hFqH9LXo
one of my personal favorites, and very very obscure. i believe the guitarist from this band went on to play with yowie, an excellent mathy/noise/experimental/avant garde band.
yowie - synchromysticism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krm5gZKZ_eg
two more before bed. these are a couple japanese bands:
nuito - unutella (full album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvn43iSvO74
3nd - bender
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FLinnTl84k
i lied. one more post. i've been linking a lot of old math rock, but these guys were very much pioneers of the whole math rock genre:
don caballero - what burns never returns (album)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26VOfPwgM_w
and these guys were in the scene back then, too. this song has vocals by the guy from pinback:
sleeping people - people staying awake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ89-zHx3Qo
and an awesome split album by tera melos & by the end of tonight. here's by the end of tonight's "delaware is depressing":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDZu4jSq4wg
and tera melos from the same split, this is the song "last smile for jaron":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGPdrEmz73c&index=11&list=PLH1chxbmg6URVOC6z1QU0zU4xgEeKLmro
okay, i lied again. one more:
tortoise - tnt (full album)

This is my favorite album of all time. Cheers, OP. Good thread.
so what defines math rock from other genres?
>>1756193
"Math rock is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords."
The math part comes from the time and mixed meters.
>>1747572
I'm really liking this, OP. Thanks.
>>1747572
Bumping, because I want to listen to this after i get home from work and i don't want the thread to die on those three hours. Thank you on advance OP, have this

Google comes up with nothing do you have a youtube link or something?
>>1758133
That anon was saying what the band name "tfvsjs" stands for. Type tfvsjs into YouTube
>>1758193
>tfvsjs
Thanks, now i feel lika a retard.
>>1758196
I wouldn't, it's a dumb name for a good band
>>1747582
Great album, great thread
mouse on the keys - leviathan.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84fbU39V0Ko
keyboard-heavy math rock sound. they get pretty jazzy on some songs.
Thanks for introducing me to this genre, really liking it so far. OP +1
Correct me if I am wrong (I am bad at assigning songs to genres), but didn't Life Is Strange use a lot of Math Rock?
Tera Melos and Hella being linked on /wsg? Holy cow, nice thread. A lot of tunes I haven't heard. I'm more into mathcore (Follow Math Core Index for some great tunes), but math rock needs more love.
I really like this thread.
>>1747583
ahhhh yessssss
MOARRRR
mathy acoustic guitar anyone?
>>1759233
This is great, thanks
>>1756193
the best way to get into this shit is to play it on repeat over and over while youre doing other things and you'll fall into everything you couldnt hear before
>>1747572
Delta Sleep did a UK tour and the one show they cancelled was in my fucking home town I was so bummed out. Absolutely amazing band though
bumping with some newer stuff you guys might not have heard yet, would recommend the whole album

I've never listened to Math Rock up until now, and I've got to say that it's pretty nice. I can hear a distinct pattern and beat that separates the genre from the others, but I can't really describe it.
>>1762695
Adding on to this, I really love the acoustics of it. It reminds me of the Serial Experiments Lain opening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMbW4sptVnE
Is there any greater tragedy than math rock spawning from emo?
With 90% of math rock bands, the guitar and rhythm is so fucking good and it's all shit-tainted by the whiny lead vocalist singing about his ugly ex girlfriend.
>no Slint
>no Polvo
fix
>>1763510
This thread seems to care more about the emo twinkly side of math rock more than the post-hardcore side.
Tbh most of us have heard Slint and Polvo already anyway, I'm here to find stuff I haven't seen yet.
>>1763610
>more than the post-hardcore side
but why
>>1747644
This is some Tortoise- and Mono-tier shit here...
good stuff
>>1763504
That's why instrumental >>>> anything else.
Vocalist is equal to 'hey i've got this friend, he wants to play an instrument soon but he likes to sing. Maybe we can give it a try'
Anyway, I saw these guys last saturday. Mind-blowing.

Remo Drive are great. Best emo release of the year.
