Certain dangerous creatures control other species (which while may seem passive at face value) in higher numbers can have disastrous effects on the environment, which then effects a whole other range of lifeforms you never even would have considered. The introduction of rabbits into Australia, for example, STILL creates trouble for farming and agriculture to this day. The most ironic aspect of this story is that the one widely available and naturally existing creature in Australia that probably could have controlled the rabbit population was destroyed beforehand because they were perceived to be dangerous. This was the dingo.

Now If you were referring to infectious disease causing pathogens such as bacteria and viruses, then you might have a point. Google "reemerging disease" in images and have a look at the world map diagrams. These once thought 'controlled' or 'eliminated' diseases previously killed thousands of people and may do so again, but with far greater transmission rates due to globalism, travel and trade. Add climate change combined with increasing immigration and population destroying pandemics are well within the realms of possibility once again.
