Suicide is, by and large very selfish, except in very rare cases like, Robin Williams for instance, who killed himself so that he wouldn't be a burden to his family as his degenerative brain disease slowly drove him insane and eventually killed him. As much as I dislike that depressives suffer, their suffering even for a lifetime doesn't outweigh the potential suffering and extreme trauma they will cause to those who love them, when they do it. Depression is neither terminal, nor insurmountable, no matter how much one might suffer. Suicide isn't, except in a case like the aforementioned example, at all okay to do, because it doesn't hurt you, it hurts everyone else. Assisted suicide in the case of terminal illnesses, I am 100% okay with, because it's not really suicide.

It's selfish in that one is never thinking about anyone other than themselves. It's selfish if a man or woman with family kills themselves even though they don't benefit BECAUSE of the pain their suicide will cause, and that they thought so little of themselves that they thought no one cared or loved them, and thus that nobody would miss them, this is always the case, save in terminal illness cases, always.

If they don't have family they're selfish because they have value to society, like any human being, you think no one will care if you die because you have no-one, you might be somewhat right in that most won't care, but there's still going to be someone who cared enough to check and discovers the corpse, selfish in that you don't even have the decency to care about a neighbors mental state after finding your decomposing corpse being eaten by the blowflies.

I am not trivializing it, I am characterizing it as what it is.
