Anyone else feel like this was originally another show, but Yu-Gi-Oh got jammed into it?

Like, this show literally could have been some interesting show about an sci-fi world where everything's connected to an all encompassing cyber network with a popular sport that involves motorcycle races that use advanced AI for combat purposes, where the main character is from the slums and uses the sport to claw his way to the top; especially after he finds out that the AI are sentient and basically want to break free of being used in combat.

Then as ad execs popped in and were like "Well, we can still make some YuGiOh money, so lets just make it about YuGiOh instead."
