Actually, the GOOD nineties ended sometime between 1995 and 1998 (i.e. after 1998 they had DEFINITELY gone to shit) when that sort of post-Cold-War optimism that permeated the early nineties slowly faded into turn-of-the-century dread.

Pending the song, seems impossible to fit the whole song in, converter wants to cut the song off instead of making slight quality decreases, its too annoying.

crank down the frame rate. If the video doesn't contain a lot of quick movement, you can go down as far as 18 fps and no one will notice a thing.
However, do not expect a video longer than 2:30 to be more than "meh" in quality.

this thread makes me realize how music videos didnt really evolve since the 90's, maybe someone who is more knowledgeable about filming technique would tell me the opposite, but as a layman in that field I feel like the same "in your face zoom in zoom out buy it" is conveyed in nowadays pop videos. Previous discussion here on best formats was inconclusive, but here's one where
a single image is dubbed using WebM for Retard's Dub filter.
Am open to advice for improving quality, for example: WFR's advanced options to further reduce video stream size, option to straight copy vorbis stream?
>>
>>
>>1667884
2-5fps is just very difficult and unpleasant to watch. you don't have enough time to look well at the whole image before it changes while there is no good illusion of motion either

90's music videos are rarely high resolution, might as well encode them in 240p without any special quality magic. just a static cover art image will do if there's no video available, which also doesn't have to be in high resolution

personally I would rather have a shorter clip that demos a song better than a webm of the full song. if it catches my interest I will look up elsewhere anyway

also seeking not fully buffered webms on 4chan can be pretty painful sometimes, so shorter webms are a little more convenient
>>
>>1667744

It depends on how you look at it. If we're talking about a certain "look and feel", music videos changed a lot even throughout the nineties. In the early nineties a lot of directors certainly had a thing for vibrant, even oversaturated colors and switching between high-contrast/low key lighting shots (a sort of Kodachrome-look if you will) and deliberately overlit, washed-out looking shots.
I'd name Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box", RHCP's "Warped", "Goodnight Girl" by Wet Wet Wet and "No Rain" by Blind Melon as prime examples here, with at least two of which having been posted on this thread. Even monochrome and sepia-toned videos would usually adopt a "classic" high-contrast/low key lighting look.

The late nineties however saw quite a shift in style, which would carry over to the early oughties. We were in the clean-cut, "fashionbly sterile" digital age now (note that the attribute "fashionably sterile" would also apply to certain trends of the 80s, albeit in a slightly different fashion): Whites and greys became more fashionable, the grainy Kodachrome-look gave way to digital video recording techniques, digital color grading became a thing and directors would experiment with low color dynamics and crisp primary colors as mere accents. Also CGI was obviously getting bigger and bigger. Examples that come to my mind here would be "Freestyler" by Bomfunk MCs, "Higher" by Creed and tons of other dreadful "post-grunge" videos, "What's It Gonna Be?!" by Busta Rhymes and Janet Jackson and "All Is Full of Love" by Björk.

FILMING AND EDITING TECHNIQUES on the other hand... well, they have remained pretty much same ever since the 80s, ever since something like an "MTV-style" had been established.

These plasma TVs were very expensive back then, but smaller panels for PC monitors were only slightly pricier than CRTs and although I was a stickler for CRT by brother bought flat due to limited space and ease of moving.
webm related is from 2011 looking at panels from 1999 onwards, it starts with a film clip that I can't identify showing large panel monitors.

There are few pieces of media that encapsulate the early nineties as nicely as the opening to "The Adventures of Pete & Pete"

>jangle-pop/college rock sound
check
>"suburban heaven"-setting (a staple of 90s kids entertainment – if it wasn't New Jersey it was some wealthy white LA neighborhood)
check
>partially indecipherable lyrics
"Hey smiling strange, you're looking happily deranged! OhBSDFSXDLJANNONEDEH Or have you ner ner ner ner ner /HEY SANDY!"*

...check

*It's "Oh, could you settle to shoot me / Or have you picked your target yet?" – but don't tell me you could ever make sense of that line from LISTENING.

Does anyone, preferably someone born in the 70s and 80s, have any good 90s playlists?
I was born in 95', so I never had the opportunity to experience the music of the 90s first hand. Whenever I look up 90's radio stations on internet radios or youtube, it's always the same Smells Like Teen Spirit, Even Flow, and Basket Case type playlist.
I'll contribute with a short 90s playlist I made:
A.M. 180 – Grandaddy
Where Is My Mind – The Pixies
Breed – Nirvana
Ball and Chain – Social Distortion
Heart Shaped Box – Nirvana
Tommy the Cat – Primus
Plush – Stone Temple Pilots
Love Buzz – Nirvana
Born Slippy – Underworld
Lithium – Nirvana
Them Bones – Alice in Chains
Everlong – Foo Fighters
Got Me Wrong – Alice in Chains
You Know You’re Right – Nirvana
Brain Stew – Green Day
Saddam A Go Go – Gwar
Feel the Pain – Dinosaur Jr.
Alive – Pearl Jam
Killing in the Name – Rage Against the Machine
Unsung – Helmet
Wave of Mutilation – Pixies
Friday I’m in Love – The Cure
Rusty Cage – Soundgarden
Mother – Danzig
Black Hole Sun – Soundgarden
Seed – Sublime
