It's the first weekend of the month, therefore it's time for a new bad drivers thread(s).
As always, I'll make the crashes thread when I run out of close calls, bad drivers and dangerous driving OC.

You can check for the original source of the video in the title metadata of the video. You'll either have a full link to the original or just the YouTube ID of the video.
If you see a bunch of random characters at the end of the title metadata, that's the YouTube ID. Careful, though, because the ID always has a - in front of it and there are some IDs that start with a -, so you could have something looking like "--1jj5_0938k". Simply ignore the first -

And it's to smooth out traffic, I guess. There's a gap of a second or two between when the crossing lane gets yellow-red, and the other lane getting yellow-green. Like a "get set" marker.
Not such a bad idea, considering humans' puny nervous system and processing take about a second to react to stimuli. The yellow-green means everybody gets enough time to prepare putting the car in gear. Not a big deal, just a few milliseconds where you lighten the clutch a bit before starting to roll.

There weren't dash cams back then so I don't have video, but this seems like a relevant place to tell my most embarrassing driving fuck up story.

However I do know for a fact that changing lanes within (or even slightly before, I forget the distance) an intersection is super illegal. Precisely for this reason.

Frankly I wish driving exams were ten times as strict as they are. Mostly because a lot of people don't know basic shit like right of way, when a turn signal is (and isn't) required, merging laws, etc.

There's this offramp that leads onto another highway on my commute home. The right lane is the one that it narrows down to when it becomes a single onramp onto the other highway. So most people stick to it. But there's two lanes for like a quarter mile, and during rush hour naturally people use both.

Except for some reason at this one stretch of road, people become colossal assholes and try to block both lanes because "hurr wait at the back of the line, I did!" despite the left lane being mostly open and there being plenty of room to merge up ahead. I've seen people nearly wreck other cars out with this retarded behavior.

If the lane's there, use it. Don't pull the dickhead move and try to merge super late or bully your way in, sure. But it's not like the last 2000' of road is somehow off limits just because a merge is ahead.

Yellow before green is a terrible idea. You don't want people going into the intersection just as the light turns green (let alone giving them early notice) because there is frequently still another driver crossing the other way who is racing like hell to make it through their yellow light in time.

This is how the majority of all major traffic accidents happen at stoplights. In America, we even put shades around the sides of stoplights to prevent people like that scooter driver from finding out that their light is about to turn green just by watching the other lights turn yellow. It's not safe to already be in the intersection as your light is turning green.

If you have a main road that gets lots of traffic, and a road merging into it. you let one person merge into it infront of you and then continue, basically taking turns, unless the road isn't congested.
