this is a good explination of partial derivatives, or derivatives of functions with more than 3 variables. Each partial derivative is a slice of the function, with the resulting partial derivative being a "shadow" of the original function.

Probably a study on what temperature some trees can withstand in a forest fire. There are certain trees that actually depend on combustion to trigger the release of their seeds, trigger the growth in their saplings, or to clear out older trees so that they can grow in their absence.

from the time of blast to the time of the shock wave arriving it takes 35 seconds, if you divide that by 5 you can calculate how far away the camera is.
Its about 7 miles from ground zero.

This is was recording realtime during a controlled burn in a forest either somwhere in the deep south or the west coast.

Turns out when the wind starts blowing the right direction the fire gets incredibly hot.

>>1570191
Why do those ring clouds form around the blast?
>>
>>1570755
It's the shallow depth of field. You get shallower depth of field for closer objects (because optics), so it seems like you're close, so it seems like it's small
>>
>>1571159
The depth of field is not only shallower, it is applied across a diagonal of the frame as opposed to the entire frame. This is usually achieved by tilting the lense, hence the term "tilt shift"
>>
>>1571158
Those are condensation rings. As the shockwave expands, moisture is displaced by it, and when it passes over, the moisture collapses and retains the ring shape
>>
>>1570896
Always wondered if this was a camera trick or also visible in real life

If I remember correctly, the reason they appear in a pattern as the blast expands is due to density differences in altitude, similar to how certain cloud formations form.

May be wrong about that, it's been while since I did any kind of meteorological work.

Two main theories back in the day.

>Out of Africa: Man came out of Africa an expanded around the world as one species, then new homo species came out of Africa again and substituted al populations of the genus homo in the world, and this happened every single time after a new homo species arose in Africa.

>Multirregionalism: Man came out of Africa, but instead of having homo species substituting all populations around the world, there was a gene flow between al human populations, so al variations that you see are just small geographic adaptations.

We can get into more, in the middle theories, like hibridation, but as far as I know they talk about how the gene flow went from Africa to the rest of the world. Out of Africa theory says that none and multirregionalism says that all human populations were engaged in a constant orgy so every human group transmited their gene flow to the rest.

But even the other theories says that humans came out of Africa.

By disproving the out of Africa theory(well, it hasn't been exactly disproved is more like its sinking due to proofs) you are admiting that races do not exists because all humans being are so related that when you see phenotipic diferences you are actually seeing small geographic variations called clines.

In even shorter terms; you are admiting that race is a social construct.

>>1572489 so don't worry about anyone putting a gun or any sort of countermeasures on this thing. It would be too loud and limited compared to ordinary drones, and some of those can hold really heavy camera rigs.

As a guy whos way too into tape decks, the reason is actually pretty simple.
As a tape plays in reverse over a head, and this requires 2 different tensioners.
So each alternates when each side of the deck plays. This means in theory that one side or the other can have worse distortion when playing than the other.
Nakamichi's solution was to use precise tensioners in their high end decks,
but for consumer level stuff (and to show off), they made the RX-202/303/505 which do the cool flipping stuff above and also have auto reverse AND low distortion, because they technically only play 1 way and everything can be more precise.

But for 99% of the other decks on the market, and hell, even portable players, losing .05% thd wasn't enough of a big deal to justify a system like this.

There's a mold underneath that carries the shape of the object. It pops up when the sheet is "inflated" with hot air. The pressure is then reversed, causing the sheet to cling as close as it can to the mold. It's really not that impressive, but with detailed graphics I admit it can look pretty neat.

You get some pretty shit plastic from it too, it's a pain to make solid, so it's all cosmetic and useless.

Is this a terribly poor bait post, or are you genuinely retarded? You need to go back to school, kid.
Based on this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rplAen13XxQ [Embed] I assume the cockbot spinkicks the monster thing at somewhere around 100 rpm.
I will assume based on the relative size of the monster that it weighs at least 5 metric tonnes (5000 kg, about 11000 lbs).
As a guesstimate I will assume it is accelerated to 30 m/s instantly by the kick.
Based on this, we know the monster has an inertial energy of 2.25 MJ when the robot is finished transferring energy.

To calculate the inertia for the robot spinning I will assume it is a 2 meter disk.
In order for these numbers to align, the robot has to have a mass of 85.000 kg, that is just short of 190.000 lbs.

If the robot has feet about 27 cm long and 10 cm wide, it has a contact area with the ground of 540cm^2. This means it would press down into the ground with around 154 kg per cm^2. None of this makes any sense considering what we actually see happening.

You're a child if you don't see the level of bullshit involved in such a scene. At any rate you have no business being in this thread and should leave.

I looked only at the video, so I can't have "forgotten" to do that. Your English is appalling.

Well, strictly speaking, it didn't "lie".
How the fuck do we deal with this? I mean, as people, not as a "scary internet collective". Is there a rational way to approach the fact that governments are actively listening in on private conversations, and have backdoors available in almost all modern technology most of us use?

I've pondered on this since the news came out, but I can't really see it. It seems like the only "option" is to do away with every item of connected electronics that you haven't actively designed, or rigorously safeguarded against this. What kind of "smart"phone can I use? Is there any mail service beyond their reach? Social networks?

Other than finding loopholes and exceptions for every scenario, moving into the woods and arranging for non-electronic communication with family seems the only alternative, but it's hardly rational, if "not changing your entire lifestyle for a principle" is a requirement to be rational.

The best response I can think that an average person is able to do is to be incredibly loud about this treasonous activity, and to hurt these companies where they all hurt the most: their wallets.
>>
>>1582035
"these companies" "their wallets"
But this is sanctioned and performed in large part by the Central Intelligence Agency and their shadowfronts. How do you even begin to hurt them without breaking the law? They're not exactly up for review, or subject to the same laws as the rest of us, or corporations are, for that matter. And if "every" major electronics corporation is "in on it" in any other sense than "you have to do this or we burn you to the ground"-directives from exactly CIA, we're back to the point in my post.

I'm all for being incredibly loud, but after the impotent rage of the Trump demos, I have little hope that today's generation cares enough to make a difference. They're more likely to cry and moan about actual democratic processes than to delve into the swamp that is the legalese foundation for intelligence activity.
>>
>>1582035
Nice presence, btw. I expected no less. It's hard for me to be mad at the employees in the company, I have no doubt most of them have good intentions, and a better understanding than me of the rationale behind its and their actions. I still find the sheer level of it frankly abhorrent.

Damn, so the initial fire, combined with the wind, acts sort of like a huge heatgun?
>>
>>1582324
Comparing the two is like comparing lego bricks to the pyramid blocks. But yes, both are indeed blocks. And both a forest fire and a heatgun are very hot.

There occurs something of a chain reaction when the wood becomes hot enough to burn its own smoke. The particles the smoke consists of are basically soot, which is tiny carbon particles. In a small, slow fire, the flames aren't hot enough to ignite the material fully, so you get more smoke due to incomplete combustion. If there is enough airflow, the "smoke" itself ignites, which makes the fire much hotter. Modern wood stoves are built to let the fire suck air from the room in an effective way, and redirect the smoke into a secondary burn area with sufficient airflow.

In the case of this webm, the fire eventually gets so hot the trees self-ignite due to the radiated heat. When they ignite, they add to the total heat applied to the other trees, so it's a kind of chain reaction, as you can see from the temperature scale. Heatguns work by applying current to a metal wire. The resistance in the wire causes the electricity to convert into infrared radiation - heat.

the fact that he can withstand an impact without flinching is indicative of his strength and combat prowess. It's a metaphorical in a broad sense of the word. Instead of showing the robot refocusing the energy it just simply shows it stopping it by raising its arm. The same way a lot of anime scenes feature people mainly grabbing the punch and stopping it midway. It's just indication of skill.

I mean, do you think ovens or furnaces powered by wood itself are hot? Obviously. Now, people back in the days (still do so today) fan the fuel so more oxygen can go into it, creating more heat. With more heat, the shit cooks faster.

Now, imagine a forest. Look everywhere, its jsut fucking wood. That wood is the fuel for the "oven". The entire fucking forest is basically an oven. Now, turn the oven on by lighting a tree or two on fire. Little by little, the whole thing heats up and once wind comes into play, the entire thing increases in temperature.

Basically, being inside a forest fire is like being inside a very hot oven. People die from this because of the extreme heat and the smoke. Its one or the two; both very painful.

You are never stronger than the material you are made of. Chi/qi is not real, you can't magically withstand more than your physical bones and ligaments can take. In this case, the ground would give way, even if the robot was made of some ultra-super-hyper magic material.

You're an idiot, you know literally nothing, and I'm sure you're underage. You need to go away.

That webm is a lazy way of telling the audience that the character is skilled. Blocking the enemies fist like that is meaningless because it is impossibility, it isn't some deep insightful message.
A good scene would show the protagonist target some weak spot in his enemy’s armour or effortlessly dodge the enemy attack. That would show his skill and experience. Instead he just doesn't do anything, utilizing some unseen 'plot armour' to defend himself. It's a shit scene.

Yeah I've always thought that basically this is how we have modern dogs.

They somehow tamed some species of wolves in various parts of the world thousands of years ago, and each area of the world the 'new breed' that was produced had characteristics of it's ancestors that were naturally in the area.
