I mean you can change it around easily enough, but the bottom line is the Russia has no right meddling in Ukraine's civil war. And with what's been going on, the rebels really haven't been doing too much "defending" unless you call shelling stationary Ukrainian military positions and making incursions into their zones self defense. The Azov rhetoric is very extreme, but have they followed through with any of it? Its hard to say. As for their "If you are not with us you are the enemy" attitude, I'd expect you'd see that in any strongly nationalist group, especially one involved in a civil war.

You know, the rebels have perpetrated just as many war crimes as those alleged to have been carried out by both battalions. When you watch news coverage from rebel held areas all you hear is "stop asking provocative questions" until a black back is pulled over your head and you emerge from a basement days later beaten but lucky to be alive. I doubt they extend the generosity they give to foreign jounalists to Ukrainian journalists

donbass was never a part of ukraine until 1991, they had no claim to the land just like the russians have no claim to it now, the rebels are fighting for the right to self-determination

Aren't the Donbass forces ignoring the Minsk agreement and shelling residential areas on the border of the Ukrainian held zone? What makes it better is that they've been alleged to launch their artillery from inside THEIR residential areas so that if there's a counter barrage it hits their residential areas so they can keep calling the Ukrainians fascists or whatever it is that they yell these days. There's also the stellar track record of Ukrainian POWs being executed or otherwise mistreated. I'm not saying that it hasn't happened to Donbass POWs too, but it seems more widespread among the rebels since they don't really have anyone to answer to. And I want to say that Donbass was regionally associated with Ukraine for quite some time before 1991, but I could be mistaken there. It all gets hazy as fuck after the whole Kevian Rus thing

Not really, Ukraine as a country came to existence after the WW1 and only thanks to SSR. Ukraine emerges as the concept of a nation, and the Ukrainians as a nationality, with the Ukrainian National Revival in the mid-18th century. It was artificially created. Before that the Ukraine NOT as a country, but rather as a land was spitted between Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, western Ukraine and Russia, eastern Ukraine.
