You couldn't have picked a synth that doesn't sound like an old man moaning?
>>1516860
saw this in the YGYL, I love it man, keep at it. It has a good beat to it. If i were to change something, it'd be the robot voice at the very end. Either make it a bit quieter or get rid of it entirely. I think it'd sound much nicer having a nice fade out to silence rather than the voice
>>1517609
Maybe putting it near or at the beginning of the song, or as some albums do, they have sort of an 'intro song' thing thats like no more than a minute, you could use it to intro yourself and then a small bit of music. maybe mess with the voice a bit.

Right! Call me a dreamer, but the song sounded like a nice intro to an album, with the beginning NASA voice recordings and having the vocoder at the end of it announce the ''funky music'' to come
why does op posts always suck?

Dude, there are some nice tunes in there. You should finish some of these songs, especially from your second album. I really like "air by bus" and "pluck".
The first two songs in your "hey now" album would be better as instrumentals imho, but as I already said, the last one is bretty darn gud.

I've made just over 20 songs. I'd never post them though, because I don't like any of them. It's been around 10 years since I made the last one. I find them all cringe worthy to listen to now. Greetings from Argentina. Been playing seriously for a bit over a year
Question:
How do you guys make this music?
Is it some sort of program or suite of programs?
Because I am interested in making synth for shits and giggles.
I want to pull a John Carpenter and score my own movies.
>>1548225
I use real instruments.
>>1548225
try FL studio. i tried and it's too complicated for me so far because the interface is ABSOLUTE TRASH and there's no tutorials out there that are REALLY good
but yeah, download FL studio with all the dope extensions, then go get your own cool add-ons

I play one instrument and besides that I just use MIDI in a program for now. But I'd like to play the music with other musicians on real instruments in the future if i become good enough.
If you want to start and to just check it out whether it interests you, try a program first, most popular ones are Ableton or FL Studio and if you find out it's what you want to do, you'll progress into more professional settings.
>>1548225
Seconding FL Studio, it's a good starting point.

None really. I just play around with stuff until I think it sounds nice.
But, thanks.
Nice job with the tune.
>>1559023
>Beautifully built up.
Thanks senpai I'm glad you like it. Yours is nice, too, I wish it was longer. It has good evolution. The instruments sound a bit.. primitive? maybe, but you blend them for a very nice overall sound. The harmony is good, it goes beyond simple backing chords / tones so that is good. I could definitely see this as the theme for a TV show. If you added to this piece I'd definitely do a slow part for a "middle plateau" then build up again to a repeat of that main part. Maybe with a big more vigor. This piece is really nice but it would be nice to hear it repeated later on with more energy as well, for both instances.
This is real good, though. The more I listen to it the more I like it, I've played it like five times on loop while typing this post and I think I'm gonna save it now.
>>1559541
Thank you very much for your kind words, it means a whole lot to me, I tend to think my output if mostly garbage.
The piece is in fact longer, though it takes a more of a pop song structure. As for the primitiveness of the instruments, i'd like to perform it on real instruments with human musicians rather than midi (hence I pick instruments i like), but I'd like to become better at writing music first.
It seems like you understand music a lot, or at least are capable of talking about it deeply. And you write great music. Would hang out with.

Fantastic piece my friend. You might find Finale Notepad worth a try. Download it and play around, and if you like it you should be able to find Finale Songwriter for 50 bucks or so. It's straight easy to use notation software, a bit buggy but it's good for someone like you who writes classical music. I highly recommend it. Best fifty dollars I ever spent. If you have the passion for music you will get hours and hours out of that program. I've written at least ten hours of music using it.
But yeah that's fair to not want to do Midi. The sound is inferior and takes a lot of tweaking. I did give you a follow on soundcloud, though, so if you do pick up Finale or have any questions about it, I know every trick in the book and then some, so I'd be happy to help you.
Do you have a group you play with, or do you record each part and stitch them together yourself?
>>1561986
Your comments are wonderful, I'm now following you as well and as I'm typing this I'm listening to the remix of Dogfight and I find its heaviness very enjoyable.
I'm not sure whether Finale Songwriter is for music notation or if it works for exporting music you've written in midi as well. I use MuseScore for notation, but I might give Finale a try if it's better.
No, I don't play in a group at the moment. I only record the flute, the rest of the instruments are midi at the moment (done in FL studio). I'm quite busy at uni for playing in a group, so for now I just write music, but I do wish to form a group to perform my songs later.
>>1562357
Well what I didn't like about musescore was that entering notes felt clunky. In Finale you can click on the eighth note, click the dot to toggle it on and off, then you can click anwhere on the staff to place dotted eighth notes. Hit delete and they are gone. Arrow keys can move them up and down. You can also easily insert notes between other ones.
> I'm not sure whether Finale Songwriter is for music notation or if it works for exporting music you've written in midi as well.
Both, and you can export to mp3 and wav files as well (though not with notepad, you'd need the full version). You can also change the instrument sounds using soundfonts, and you can change reverb levels, etc.
I think Muse Score might have a lot of the same features, but I don't know for sure.
Being able to export directly to Wav is a big plus for me. No post-production required, except for maybe Audacity for fade-in/outs if I want.
That's cool how you do it, though. I like the blend of real-sounding instrument and midi voice, it gives a nice blend.
>>1562362
Thanks loads for the soundfonts, I'm always on the lookout for more, ESPECAILLY full 128 voice soundbanks. So I really appreciate that. I'll have to download them and open them in Viena to check them out.

Also nice work on the webm you posted, sounds like it could be on artziemusic or something. Only problem i could see is it getting lost in how similar it sounds.
