I think overall out of all the FF games, it has the most consistently great soundtrack with music that perfectly encapsulates / escelates the vibe of what's happening game. Not to undermine any other FF games because all of them up to a certain point had amazing music and great hype songs (see >>1517512 as 1 example) but, I've also read multiple times that FF9 was Nobous favorite project and it really shows

What methods to you guys use to keep file size so low?
I'm already having a hard time just keeping it from going past the limit for 2 and a half minute long tracks, without it being completely unwatchable/have shit audio, webum very related

What did you expect, most people here are keeping their audio bit rate bellow 128kb/s while your fucking webm has a bit rate of 240kb/s

Settings audio quality to 128kbps will always provide < 4MB files
Otherwise, as i'm using ffmpeg, i try multiple encoding using a variable audio quality value (-q:a ) between 0 and 7
Also, the reason your file is so big is because it has a video stream. The first files you see in the thread have a still image, and you can notice the image quality is good and it never changes at all during the whole duration of the webm: the webm knows it's a still image and will show the very same frame for all the webm duration. Your video however change constantly, because keyframes, meaning it has a video stream.
Since you're probably using WebmConverter i don't really know how you could do this, using ffmpeg i generally use this very simple command:

ffmpeg -i image.png -i audio.mp3 -b:a 128k -vcodec libpx -acodec libvorbis output.webm

And this does the job.

I heard that for webm Opus has a better quality/size ratio than Vorbis, but I couldn't set Opus' quality using FFmpeg. With Vorbis is just as you said, just use -q:a.

Did a few test and even with the highest compression level for opus (-vbr on -compression_level 0), opus seems to be 1.12x heavier than vorbis, and after extracting the audio tracks opus also seems to be of slightly lower quality (stops abruptly at 20k, whereas vorbis goes at 21k and some bits higher than that)

Funnily enough, with very few exceptions, the OST of DaS1 is kind of...unremarkable, for the biggest part. A lot of pieces just sound like "yet another Sakuraba" track which bothers me a lot, although the few that actually are remarkable work exceptionally well.

Overall, the series's music only improved as they hired more composers starting with 2 and BB, especially Yuka Kitamura.

As much as I adore this game, I agree. This theme is cool, Gwyn's theme sends chills down my spine, and Souls of Fire is real nice to listen to. The rest is pretty average.

I always hear the argument that a big part of the atmosphere in this game is the lack of music, and that makes it better. I kind of agree, but it might just be that they didn't just make great music.
