american watchmaker here. not him but I can answer some.

starting salary is 55-60k$

the watch market is pretty low right now. nobody is buying new watches. however people still will pay to maintain their current watches. the repair and service sector is losing trained personnel quick. we need more.

is super seriouz job
>>
>>1474261
Not him but used to be in a watchmaker school as well.
There is a trend with watchmaking brands. They all centralize their maintenance in few select official centers, otherwise you gotta pay out of your ass to have the accreditations to work on high end watches and keep the warranty (and customers want to keep their warranty).
In Europe it's becoming hell for independents if you're not able to make a huge investment.
Best bet is to work in Switzerland but you'll likely be stuck in Assembly line starting at around 3k-3.5k monthly.
Also enjoy living in France/Germany and commute 2 hours everyday because swiss laws for residency are notorious to be very tough (for good reasons).
If you're motivated try to get accepted into a WOSTEP school, get some experience in switzerland and then move to Dubai/Tokyo/Beinjing or other places with very rich people. You'll rake in dosh.

Watch making is slowing down. It used to have a growth in the double digits but it slowed down these 2 lasts years due to the slow down of the asian market. Still going strong tho.

>Is is a hobby or are you going to haveit be your full time job
Probably going to go full time
>What kind of payment are you expecting? (Ignore this question if you want)
Depends if I work in France or in Switzerland, and for a big compagny or in an after sales service
>Is watchmaking going strong or is it only at the very most a novelty?
It's quite strong with rich/classic people
>Is France the best Goddam place on earth?
No.
>Is it a serious jodbor are your parent crying?
Before I went this way I was making burgers for McD's, so I guess they're crying tears of joy
>>
>>1483629
How long have you been in school?
>>
>>1477659
There are few people who still buy new watches. I got one as a gift, and I was very happy about it.
But it is very small group with certain style.
