Aside from a few moments I thought the fights in the prequels were great. I never knew why people felt the need to slow them down and point out they weren't realistic. The one thing that stood out as terrible was this 10 second close up of Anakin's and Count Dooku's face in episode 2 that made it look like they were in a rave.

Why is it the bad guys are the only ones in Star Wars that are any cool? Even Kylo Ren was better written than Ray Sue. It probably has to do with the fact that most bad guys get less exposure and remain mysterious, if done properly.

I guarantee you, Vader and the Imperial forces will be the only good shit to come out of Rogue One. The rest will be identity politics, ironic considering they've appropriated Jedi Knight: Dark Forces' storyline, except they removed Kyle Katarn and race-changed his asian girlfriend into a generic uppity white feminist.

They all probably still bled a little bit (they blessed us by not giving that grizzly image). You watch a scene like that though and know that had it been made in today's climate, Luke's arm would just be gushing with blood.

Gareth Edwards has a very subdued and down to Earth style (see Monsters and Godzilla (2014)). The general aesthetic of the movie you get from the trailers is a good analogue for Edward's sensibilities. Anyone who doesn't like it is a normie who went in with expectations of an upbeat adventure story like the original trilogy.

I'd go so far to say it's a bad 'Star Wars' movie but a very good movie on it's own.

From the music to the panic on the rebels faces, they knew they were absolutely screwed.

That scene really does show what it feels like to be a rebel against the might of Darth Vader. And that's him being casual, he's gone up against large numbers and decimated.

It's the opposite for me; imagine this film without the Star Wars theme and you'll realize how bland the story really is. Similar storylines have been done many times before and were way better in their execution.

It's also funny how many similarities there are with Edwards' previous horrendous Godzilla film; bland characters, fast and obnoxious pacing, famous actor and seemingly important character dies in the first ten minutes of the film, a bunch of soldiers have to fight the odds in order to save the world/galaxy etc.

Wow, are you a faggot. Star Wars was Lucas' IP. He hired that designer to produce however many busts of a character that Lucas described and regardless of which one the designer thought was the best, it came down to whichever one was closest to Lucas' vision. Say what you will about George, but he's not some rando or some goosestepping suit, Star Wars was his artwork not your beloved character designer.

That's literally every profession that hires designers. As a designer myself, this shit is common. If you freelance most of the time you're on Skype getting corrections from some corporate asshole who most likely hates art and design but loves to waste his office hours telling you how something isn't just the way they want in a way that is so subtle you might as well just tell them "show me then".

However professionalism ascerns that you listen and "correct" what they want. Usually you get good clients that aren't like Lucas there.
>>
>>1452566
Now that I think about it, yeah.
I doubt that's what they had in mind, but it sure is a good shot in both scenes.
>>
>>1454779
It just feels odd that they'd execute him in the middle of a battle. Traitor or not Jedis are excellent force (heh) multipliers, and would have made winning the battle easier.

Though I guess it was a tactical decision. Kill the Jedi now while you have him pinned between you and the droids, rather then try to kill him later when he only has to worry about you.

Incorrect. From that angle Qui Gon couldn't block the "headblow" because he's reaching very far out while darth maul's fulcrum point is almost at his core. The "headblow" as you call it would surely not have been blocked by Qui Gon's love tap. Whereas if he had taken this opportunity to actually kill Darth Maul with such an obvious and easy move the movie would have gone much differently.
>>
>>1431647
Yes. Essentially the blue, yellow, and pink markers represent the various teams who will be in charge of the work. At 53 seconds he says "PInk" is "Set" meaning the Set team. Not sure what "Real" means or if he's saying "Reel". Also the video loops in this webm to make it seem more cringey.

The only injection of anything that resembles humanity in the movie comes ironically from the token robot. The characters are awkwardly bland. They tried to set up the main character with a short backstory from her childhood but there wasn't enough of it to make us care or make it relevant in any way.

RedLetterMedia was right, it should have been more of a cloak and dagger movie with a bit more light hearted humor between a small crew of dead men walking, not a saving private ryan with lasers and depression.

The Force (tm) has been given a bit of a power creep through the years.
Lucas being the originator didn't creep it up all that much and what he did creep up was more physical attributes (Yoda flipping around, everyone flipping around, high jumps, super balance, etc etc) but what is actually done with the force in a "magical" sort of sense never really got too big.
In the games and comics and books the force powers are incredibly creeped up.

In the recent movies you can see the force power-creep happening with Rei's sudden mastery of shit and Kylo's ability to do shit like stop blaster bolts in mid air.
You can see the creep up in the most recent movie too with Vader's scene.
Where as Vader NEVER lifted any person with the force, or pushed them around, and had trouble even throwing objects with the force at Luke during a fight in the old movies...
In this latest one he's just marching through lifting people up, choking them, pulling multiple weapons away and pushing people aside with the force.
Its a creep up.
It will continue to creep up.

>>
>>1446237
It was fucking terrible. The first half of the movie was just shit.

One anon's going on about "down to earth style." Bull fucking shit. The issue with the movie is that the dialogue is horrible. They're playing up grim derp but the main character is still spewing noble bright. Any character interaction is absolute shit.

The only decent part of the movie is the last 30 minutes or so where everyone shuts the fuck up and you get a gun fight/spacebattle/vader.

TLDR: Actions scenes are great, everything else is fanfiction tier writing.
>>
https://youtu.be/g_H3_g9PhnM

I need this in webm form.
>>
>>1458752
Ok, you might be dumb so let me break it down to you.
This is not something to do with "how magic works" or anything like that. its how the escalation of stakes and the "rule of cool" works in any story series that finds itself continuing on and on and on.

The most glaring example of this is in cartoon shows like DBZ where every new villain has to be EVEN MORE POWERFUL each and every time. This comes from basically writing yourself into a corner because your hero has to become more powerful than the villain to overcome them and thus your next villains have to be even more powerful than that.
Even without magical powers it happens with story plots and things like that.
Look at the Die Hard movies. Went from being trapped in the last top floors of an office building to eventually ever expanding locations and threats until it was THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF RUSSIA WHOOAAAAA.

So with something like Star Wars you're going to see this steady power-creep of The Force.
Now I don't really mind it so much because for so long in the movies The Force seemed little better than a bit of spidey-sense and not having to get up to get a beer from the fridge.
We should never get to the levels of the "Force Unleashed" games in the movies but an actual showing of a distinct combat advantage is appreciated and kind of brings The Force back into what it should be. A power beyond the physical that can turn a lumbering cripple like Vader into a truly deadly figure, a one man squadron of sorts.
The acrobatics got to go.

I really love the nonchalant way he force pushes that guy into the ceiling, it's simple but it might be one of my favourite things I've seen done with the force, makes me realise Jedi fights normally take place in quite open spaces.

It does seem a bit at odds with how you never see him be this efficient in the other movies, though. He's not doing anything outlandish, just a lot of stuff and very efficiently. I was anticipating they'd do some Force Unleashed-tier ridiculous stuff. I'm glad they didn't.

***spoilers***

Tarkin realizes that the rebels are launching an assault to steal the death star plans from an imperial compound in that planet, so he takes the death star there and nukes the shit out of the planet to prevent that from happening. However the rebels manage to transmit the plans to their fleet above in space. Jyn and Cassian, the two there are left on the planet surface to be consumed by the nuke while the rebel ships escape with the plans.

Immediately after this webm ends, that scene with vader slaughtering rebels as a last attempt to stop them from escaping with the plans takes place.

>>1446237
It's a war movie.
Shows the less rose-y side of the Rebellion, how bad things really are and how powerful the Empire is.

The main protagonist suffers from being underdeveloped and having a pretty inconsistent motivation; which means you'll feel nothing for her or her father during the emotional scenes and you'll likely raise an eyebrow when she suddenly cares about the cause and Rebel McWhatshisface.
Aside from that it's OK for the first two acts and then really fucking intense for the last one, making it end on a high note.

If you like star wars for its heroes, character developement and journey and a big adventure, or if you hoped for a Guardians of the Galaxy / Avengers movie in the Star Wars universe, then you'll leave disappointed.
But if you take it as a nice fluff piece to showcase what was all the fuss with the Empire (which doesn't seem like that big a threat in 4 to 6) then it's a good watch.
