I only ever listened to a bit of McKee from some old HS guitar classes. Good stuff. The sort of elegance of playing, use of percussiveness, and use of fingerpicking is infinitely more difficult and interesting than shreds.

Sure. You can play scales and arpeggios quickly on an instrument where you don't fucking need to tune. Its not that impressive. Hearing actual musicality, polyphony, and creativity is way more compelling.

The point is not how "creative" it is. I found it interesting and impressive because it looks like he had complete control over every effect: he could overblow underblow use vibrato and every single aspect of the instrument in exactly the way he wanted.

Granted, the end result of that control is really schitzophrenic and hard to listen to, but I still sort of respect it.

So there is this one woman who performs in Union Square, often late at night. She plays one of those dinky elementary school recorder flute things. Also, Levon Helm and Rick Danko both recorded a fuckin jazz album with Lenny Breau (best guitarist of all time). They had better chops than they showed in their average play with The Band. Anyways, you're wrong in saying these guys aren't god tier musicians. Literally everyone in The Band was a multi-instrumentalist and the one who played the least amount of instruments (Robbie Robertson) is an amazingly prolific song-writer (Assuming, of course, that he actually did write everything he got credit for). The first guy has terrible technique, obviously weak fingers, and worst of all bad tone. His playing sounds like he needs to put waaaaaay too much gain on his signal because otherwise he can't even make you hear the notes at all, due to his bad technique and weak fingers.
The things he's actually playing are not much better in my opinion. First of all, he starts with some generic as fuck blues rock licks, after which he starts tapping arpeggio's. If there's one meme in guitar playing I want to die it's tapping arpeggio's. It's not creative, it's not difficult, it doesn't sound good 80% of the time, and it instantly turns anything you play into a ten year old's first attempt at being badass. If your name is not Guthrie Govan, stop tapping.
