Hahahaha
everyone's going bonkers
any of you ever hear the terms "iconoclast" or "iconoclasm"?
Long ass fucken time ago, in a galaxy way fucken close to ours, a bunch of catholics decided, much as the buddhist doctrine if I'm not mistaken, that there shouldn't be images of divinity for the image itself is not unlike an idol, hidding what true divinity lay beyond the mere physical image.
So they hunted and destroyed images, monuments, physical symbols, with the idea to restore a truer link with god, one which was inward, not outward through physicality.
What the pope says here, you edgy cunts, is a continuation of this. His image shall not be shown, for his work is one of divinity. However, this notion was [corrupted] if you will, or adapted to more modern contexts. So iconoclasm became the root for curiosity: negative propaganda, presence through absence.
Hope that helped.

Interestingly that particular scene isn't from the book The Sum of All Fears, but from Red Storm Rising. What happens in the book is that the Backfires use cruise missiles as decoys, which send the intercepting Tomcats to the wrong vector. Then they spam Kingfish at the carrier group and the Aegis escorts and remaining planes don't get all of them. This is an actual threat scenario considered by USN and it's one of the driving forces behind the rollout of LaWS.
>>1381150
Some episodes are great, some are emo teen levels of bad.
>>1416623
Yeah, it's hit and miss. Charlie Booker needs to learn sublety
>>1416623
I liked every episode except for the waldo or whatever one. the one with the blue bear.
>>1397096
>>1416410
This. iirc the Russian doctrine against a carrier called for an overwhelming number of missiles launched from planes from a distance. Something like 30x4 or more. The idea being that while most would be intercepted the few likely hits would be enough to force the carrier out of action for a time or limit its functionality severely.

>>1416803
That was the only one I genuinely loved, actually. Came off as cynical and dark and funny without going to college-freshman levels of cruelty like all the other episodes.
>>1417187
Near Dark?
>>1392493
But that's wrong. Iconoclasm did and does exist, but it has never been a Roman Catholic doctrine, or even held any decent influence over mainstream Catholicism. The Byzantine's, several protestants, plenty of ancient Christians, and some medieval heretical sects all had iconoclast ideas to varying degrees at some point. However iconoclasm in the Catholic church has been entirely regulated to fringe individuals for it's entire history.
>>1417738
I thought it was just loud and very obnoxious with no meaning at all. It didn't seem dark or anything the guy just seemed like a sad whiny cunt taking out his frustration on others.
>>1401418
what an amazing film that was totally messed with my mind
>>1420044

>>1418438
The asteroid-miners are "Belters", a colloquial term for people who are born in the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, as opposed to Earthers or Martians, who are born on their respective planets. Their bodies are frail for being born and living in low gravity, unless it undergoes genetic therapy. So they are more or less a permanent underclass of laborers, miners and the like who cannot even live on the planets.
In the books/show, they are caught between the United Nations of Earth, and the Martian Congressional Republic, as they are more or less bullied and exploited by both. Their own brand of freedomfighters/terrorists does not make the situation any better.

In addition, if my memory does not fail (which it may well have), I wouldn't say "doctrine" but more like a historical fad. If i remember well, the iconoclasm i'm refering to happened in a fairly brief amount of time (though it did strike the religious mind and surely incrusted itself into some of the many religious branches). I have to open alot of boxes before I find that book though. So I might just take my loss.
The iconoclast ideological pattern seems present in the webm though. But if you are right, it does constitute a terribly mistaken conception of what that Jude Law pope would've held as beliefs, therefore making this scene utter shyte.
I'm not ready to call it cringe yet though.
>>1424684
That's in the film?!? I had no idea how bad it was.
>>1417013
Holy fuck it's so horrendous!
Holy fuck it's fucking Francis Mcdormand!
Anyone have a clip I saw on here of a woman freaking out because she can't find her hair brush? Can't remember the movie or actress and its driving me crazy.
