Sorry, but he was definitely using his hand to block the bullets from hitting his chest. He's got a military cyborg body with regenerative capabilities. He can take a few bullets in his extremities without having any kind of negative affect from it. Chest shots though still probably not lethal with just a few bullets, would have done some damage at least in the short term.
