Completely agree with you there. I loved Halo 4's Campaign, that ending was really emotional and it showed the Chief being human after all. I wanted Halo 5 to show this human side of Chief, I wanted them to address the PTSD problem that troubles soldiers in real life as well as Spartans. But instead Halo 5 was made. What I don't really like about these games is just the sheer number of dudes. This isn't a warzone. Why are there sixity-six trillion dudes with guns here? Sometimes it feels like rather then make the game actually challenging, they felt that it'd be easier to fake challenge by just dumping an entire football stadium worth of gunmen into each area.

The challenge does come from the number of enemies you have to fight. That does not make it a "fake challenge;" it's a cover shooter so they usually have to flank you / surround you to finish you off, and they just would not be able to do it before you regenerated if you were only fighting 3-5 dudes per encounter (especially considering how mobile you are).
The game's whole combat formula is basically "use your stealth and/or mobility to isolate and kill enough of the overwhelming number of enemies that you can take the rest of them in a straight-fight without getting surrounded," with "when you can take the rest of them" being decided by what situational advantages you are able to attain (Can you kill the reinforcements with bombs when they spawn in all packed together? Can you kill the big guy and use his gun on the others? etc)
You don't have to follow the formula, but the fights will be that much harder/slower if you don't.
Also it's meant to be fast paced, and more+weaker enemies is almost always correlated with a faster pace.

It'sa not the graphics, it's the narrative that has improved. Bioshock Infinite and The Last Of Us are hugely guilty of this also. All these games want to have immersive and deeply personal stories or whatever but interspersed with absolutely cartoonish levels of violence completely out of sync with the narrative and the world the game is presenting. It doesn't really work if you stop and think for a few seconds
