Fortunately for me, I started off when the series actually started to get really good, went back and watched the first two seasons, and got to watch the best episodes with everyone else.
Even rewatched the entire thing with a friend.

I think what kept me around was that I just really liked a few of the characters, and in Season 2, they finally got the spotlight and were the MC's of their stories, so I was totally in love with it by then.

Thing for me is that a western show is easier to swallow since i would watch it on a weekly basis on TV and not marathon it like animes.
Same reason why watching seasonal anime "live" as they come out is pretty easy, even for me.

It really didn't. Just because the visuals are flashy and artsy doesn't mean they are trying to be anything more than flashy and artsy.
The show isn't 2deep, it's a pretty basic story with nice visuals and a unique style. That's all it is and all it wants to be.

I understand if the ecchi turns you off though. I droppe Keijo right from the synopsis, and I still won't bother with Shokugeki no Soma for that very reason. Thing about 'Gatari is that the Ecchi isn't the centerpiece of the story. It's just the cherry on top, which is how it fucking should be.
