well i use webm for retards for one thing,
then i set the bit rate pretty low (in this case 200kb/s), the resolution to 640x360, and the file size limit to 4.096mb for the max size limit.
I also use savefrom.net to download and convert the video as well(really useful imo).

well i usually download the videos from save.net, where i can also convert them into webms. there i can keep the resolution as is without messing with it, and I also trim them

I'd say try the newer version for a bit and if you don't like it you can always just go back to the older one.
