Always hated this fight.
>Enterprise shields bypassed
>hit by multiple isoton torpedos
>everything's fine
>they rig the bird of prey to lower their shields
>fire one torpedo
>bird of prey explodes
>>1351804
Yeah the writing for this was a terrible excuse to get rid of the Enterprise D. The entire scene made no sense for the reasons you said and things like why didn't they just change the shield modulation? How is a bird of prey any match for a galaxy class ship even with its shields down?
My version of the battle goes something like this;
The Bird of Prey opens fire on the Enterprise, targeting its shield generators and weapons with the first volley, The Enterprise performs evasive maneuvers by flying closer to the planets atmosphere. The 20 year old BOP is showing it's age, can't get a weapons lock and instead transports a dozen or so Klingon troops aboard to take the ship.
There's a massive fire fight across multiple decks of the enterprise while the ship continues to evade weapons fire from the Klingon ship. Data has an idea, use the tractor beam to push the BOP into the planets atmosphere, destroying it instantly. The remaining Klingons on board and defeated but not before one fires his disruptor at the warp core before dying, and then the events happen just as the movie shows.

From the way they describe the weapons in the various fanzines, any such weapon that hits a star ship with its shields down should utterly vaporize it along with anything else in the general vicinity.

>>1428035
This episode was amazing. And it infuriates me that they handled the aftermath so poorly. He lived an entire life in like an hour. There is no way Starfleet would let him continue gallivanting across the galaxy in their flagship. Like, there is probably so much he has forgotten. Not to mention the PTSD, after assimilating into an alien culture, spending a lifetime questioning whether or not everything he knew before this life was just imagined, having a family, trying to save his adopted world, and then watching it all die only to be thrown back into the life of Captain Picard.
And the only followup we see is him playing the flute a few episodes later.
>>1436293
well shit my git, that's barely even an outfit
>>1433342
True, but dat camera work is love
A continuous pan shot with superb acting. They even had Patrick play the flute in the same take. That's what makes it for me.
TNG plots didn't always clean up that well in hindsight, but they nailed the atmosphere pretty much every time and committed to it. Even the shitty episodes felt like their own.

Troi: "Tasha, I've always encouraged you to allow yourself to explore your feelings freely and openly, but I...still sense some conflict in you. I feel you're holding something back. This isn't about our last talk when you thought I was coming on to y---"
Natasha: "No, I was just confused! I swear!"
Troi: "But I sense your emotions toward me were genuine...I know it was just a misunderstanding but there's no reason for you to feel self-conscious. It's quite normal for humans to question their sexuality. As far back as the 20th century, the earth psychologist Alfred Kinsey noticed that humans have a degree of sexual desire for humans of any gender."
Natasha: "Well, yeah. I have had strong desires for women before."
Troi: "So, what's different now? Why do you feel so strongly heterosexual? What are you holding back?"
Natasha:"Well, I met a guy..."
/Troi's concern dissipates a little as she leans back and her expression turns to amusement
Troi: "oh, really? So...who was lucky officer?"
Natasha: "I'm kinda embarrassed to say..."
Troi: "Na'tasha. You know I won't judge you. Who was it?"

Natasha:"Okay, this may sound funny, but it was...Lt. Commander Data."

gene roddenberry would rotate in his grave.
i mean, beastie boys are cool and so is star trek, but it's like coke and milk, you don't mix em up.
I came to a terrible realization today while watching TNG. Since every time someone gets transported they get turned from matter to energy and back to matter again, what they are essentially doing is killing the person (via disassembling them into energy) and making a brand new copy from the energy and pattern stored during transport. And they would never have any way of knowing, because what came out of the transporter is identical to what went in, conciousness and all, but still just a copy made from the energy.

>>1529621
Yeah, I guess one the problems here is that, compared to the original, all lighting effects have been brightened up considerably in order to have a bit mor "pizzazz", so to speak. This did however have the adverse effect that the overall glare drowns out some details.

Major Kira was definitely one of the sexiest characters in Trek, but boy did I find Nana Visitor's voice annoying.
>>1349623
Don't set your hopes too high. Let's just hope that it will at the very least feel like a Star Trek series.
>>1304357
I never got why they used the classic "War of the Worlds" torpedo sound effect but the TNG (or rather post-TNG) phaser sounds.
Call it autism but I missed the "breeeep" of classic TOS phasers there. Fortunately they DO use the classic sound effect in the scene where Archer kills that admiral with a hand phaser.

>>1351804
The BoP was a shitty old rust bucket though.
Anyway, Generations was a shitty movie and I won't even try to justify anything that happened in it. I for one loved the Enterprise D since it's the Big E I've grown up with. Yeah, she might've had a certain "Club Med in space" feel to her and the movie Enterprise (1701 refit and 1701-A) still takes the cake as the most aesthetically pleasing model, but TNG was a great show and Enterprise D was a perfectly fitting setting for that show. Thus the decision to have her blow up in that movie really never resonated with me.

Yeah, but he GOT to tap that and that's all that counts.
I feel the need to revive this thread properly. And what better way to revive a thread than by doing some surveying? Cause everyone loves a survey, right? Right.
Actually, I was just wondering:
Out of all the series' main title themes, which is your favorite?
1. TOS
2. TNG
3. DS9 (S1-S3)
4. DS9 (S4-S7)
5. VOY
6. ENT (S1&S2)
7. ENT (S3&S4)
To the polls:
https://strawpoll.com/94ac8wf
As you can see, I've listed the modified DS9 theme that was used from S4 onwards as a separate entry, if simply because I for one actually preferred the slower theme, used until S3.
The same is true for the two variants of ENT's "Where My Heart Will Take Me"/"Faith of the Heart" (both of which I personally hated indiscriminately)
The ENT "In a Mirror, Darkly" theme, as heard and seen in this WEBM is out of competition, since it was only a 2-episode thing done for novelty's sake.
Also not listed as a separate entry is the TNG "extended" theme variant used from S4 onward (if I'm not mistaken) since the arrangement remains basically the same and the only difference is a 2-second extension.
Also excluded is the TAS theme, since TAS is non-canonic anyway.

Ron Jones won an Emmy for that soundtrack... right before being fired by Rick Berman, for having his shit be too distinctive within the show and overshadowing the action apparently. He composed an entirely unique soundscape for each episode he worked on, and some of it is truly beautiful.

>>1327299
I love my TOS Tottie of the Week find the nudes game. Oh yes I do.
>>1324554
Yes, it is. It's the first of the JJ-verse movies that actually deserves to be called a Star Trek movie.
They finally got the characters right, you know. Kirk doesn't behave like a lusting teenager anymore, Spock doesn't try to beat anyone to death, Scotty appears to be more than a mere wisecracking comic relief for the most part... and they even managed to introduce a likeable new character in the form of Jaylah (Sofia Boutella).
The general tone of the movie is much more lighthearted than the two previous installments and yet it doesn't lose itself in obnoxious comedy which is a huge plus.
The movie's weak point is – once again – the villain, but in this case one could argue that they TRIED to do something slightly different for once. Also the movie isn't really "villain-centered" anyway.
