For the person who asked this in the previous thread, this is what I do.

Set variable mode.

Check high quality box.

Set tolerance to max (63)

I don't find audio quality that important in this particular instance, so I just set it at 1 to save room.

Under the advanced tab, click the denoise box.

Then I increase CRF until I get as close to just under 4 MB as I can. For a 1:30 webm, in the 40s-low 50s seems to be about right.

If it's right under 4 MB, great. If I have some room, I raise the amount of slices to improve quality a bit.

This should get an acceptable webm. Granted, since I'm making webms for older anime, my standards for video quality isn't very high as I'm used to the worse quality from when I first saw them back in the day.

Still after playing with the bitrate enough times you start almost know what the outcomes going to be. With what I do now it would probably take me close to an hour of tinkering to get as close to 4mb as possible yet I just shit this out in 5 minutes (and it's really not much worse than the youtube source)

Eh, it only seems a lot when you write it all out.

I do most of the steps when I open the program, which takes like 10 seconds. The only thing that really takes time is picking the right CRF and waiting for the .webm to be made. And like you said, with experience, you can estimate the number that gets closest. Total time is a couple of minutes, longer if I get distracted browsing 4chan while waiting for the webm to be made.

I think it's okay. I mean, I would agree if there were only 10 posts here. But there's 165 posts and 103 webms. In my opinion, that seems like a popular enough theme to segregate it to it's own thread so it doesn't clutter up the anime general and force it to a premature 404.
