I think twisting the structure that suppsorts the seeds in the water melon makes it longer thus letting it support more seeds in a watermelon of a given size.
I could be wrong though.
Or I may be right about THAT but that NOT be the reason they evolved to spiral.

not sure which image you are referring too. But you don't take images when the person has isotopes flowing through them.

Its called fluoroscopic imaging
its similar to typical x-ray radiography but produces a dynamic image
in fact most of the gif/webm's in this thread that have a circular field of view are probably from c-arm fluoroscopy
>>1235033
Thats probably a cadaver, you need to stay extremely still for an MRI and that kind of detailed image would take well over an hour minimum even in the most sophisticated MRI unit.

This isn't MRI or CT or other tomography. It's photographs of frozen sections. He was a murderer executed in Texas by lethal injection. He donated his body to science. They froze him in a block of something, then sliced through a little bit at a time, taking photos of each slice.

It's actually a swallow study--the reason that drink is colored dark is because it's radiopaque--probably barium. The second swallow after the barium goes down is to mix the remaining contrast in the mouth and throat with spit and see how it travels down compared to how the contrast travels down the throat.

Thats really interesting how the wave like impulse triggers the cell division. Like how nerves travel to send signals all over the body.
>>1505606
It looks like that because cell divisions like that are triggered by developmental proteins but only when a certain concentration is reached. They are usually only produced at one end of the embryo (that is how the axis are defined, once you have a front and back the rest are easy) so there is a concentration gradient. And as that gradient moves through the embryo the cells divide along it. You can see it takes like 5 minutes for the concentration threshold to be reached throughout the entire embryo.
